Okay.

Your cars have redeemed you, at least in my eyes. Nice stuff!

I do suggest you wait a bit.

Then, you can catch one and keep the iconic DON bezel with it.

Iconic, like the grills on TR-3s and classic Land Rovers. 👍

@Elitr6 , if you want to understand the upset, flip through the vintage forum & view some of the angsty threads about bezels.
DON bezels in particular. Bezels drive speedy freaks crazy.

Cheers. Plan A is still to find a cheap enough modern speedy and have it relumed to look vintage. My bb58 takes a beating most days. I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing a piece with a high monetary value knowing that every knock could be an expensive mistake.

I honestly couldn't care less what kind of bezel a speedy sports. Spending thousands for a dot that's positioned a tad higher is fairly insane when you think about it from a non watch person's perspective.

Same crew who spend mega bucks on NOS air filters for a classic car or who get excited about concours level restorations. Different strokes and all that. My cars are meant to be used and abused, the same applies to my watches.

A few nicks, nice patina and solid uprated insides are what I'm looking for.

Take it easy everyone

Hammer price 5900 Euro + ~ 26% premium/charges 1535 EUR = 7435 Euro/ 6735 GBP/ 8830 USD..last bids looked like two guys lost control. Pretty strong price for this condition and quality, including unknown surprises on the inside..

Thank you all for the update. I believe that the fact that this watch was discussed in this forum might have somehow, pulled the result up... let’s not forget that the condition of the movement is unknown as far as I know.

I honestly believe in a “OF effect” (I beg you pardon for the comparison, but kinda like the “HODINKEE effect” which is quite real)

Surprising price. Given the condition, I didn't expect it to sell for more than $6k USD without a bracelet. Maybe it's time to sell.

I looks like there’s a new bunch of uneducated buyers looking to place their cash into assets like vintage watches at auction.

there’s no single reason to pay this kind of money for that watch, unless trusting the auctioneer is your only way to assess the opportunity...

Also, I don't think there are that many vintage speedys circulating in France... so the local market may be very different that in the US where all the good watches are, it seems.
