I'm looking to acquire this C Case Gold Capped 168.029 from an overseas dealer as my second vintage Omega. This has quite a few boxes checked for me so I really am interested: C case, fluted bezel, gold capped, etc.

Selling is asking $800 for this piece which to me, sounds like a deal for such condition.

My limited knowledge looking at the dial tells me that everything looks correct, including the dial. But maybe you can tell me more if anything sticks out.One thing that make me question is that the one example Hodinkee had for sale at one point has the magnifier crystal on the date window, so I'm not sure if the crystal is original.

Also, does "CD" before 168.029 on the caseback means Gold Capped?

Thanks!

Condition is pretty good I think, magnifier is optional and you can buy a magnified original crystal for around $50

CD is 14K yellow gold capped, hard to assess case condition of yellow gold cases from photos, they usually appear slightly polished even when they are crisp

Main issue I can see is the replacement crown, it's wrong and it's the wrong color, if I had to guess I'd say this is a UK watch as it's easy to buy 9ct coated crowns in UK

Correct crown is also $50

Overall a nice watch, I paid more in the past for my first CD 168.029, but since then the values dropped significantly, so it's currently meh priced

Thank you for pointing out the crown. My main concern then is that the seller claimed everything is original. I think I can use this to negotiate further.

Any idea on where I can get the correct crown for $50? And what is the ref for it?

Also, here is the thickness of the gold:

Everything except the crown looked pretty good to me at a quick glance

Thank you for your help! Able to get it down to $600 so I think I'll go for it and purchase the original crown

One more thing I noticed: is the "Swiss Made" text supposed to touch the upper pane like the photos in these? Some photos I found online it does, some it doesn't

Nice coin bezel as well. Good bargaining! Enjoy and post some photos on the wrist.

Probably due to refraction from the side of the crystal which is probably a replacement, you'll be able see more clearly when you get it.

Ah thanks, I was worried it might be redialed. How could you tell if a crystal is replacement?

Well first, it looks to be in excellent contain for a watch that is approx 40+ years old
Secondly, it looks a bit "highsides/flat top" whereas the originals has a slightly more soft edge dome profile.

It's not an issue as the absolute original crystal is probably not even made any more.
