Opinion on this Constellation 14393

As I continue my research for a Pie Pan constellation, I cam across a japanese reseller with a seemingly good reputation, called ITEM Time Anagram. They're a brick and mortar shop in Tokyo, as well as an online retailer. At this point, I'd rather not buy from a personal seller as I am a beginner. As they have a pretty large Constellation collection, I'd be interested to hear some feedback in case anyone heard/bought from them.

Browsing through the said collection, I came across this model with arabian figures at 12, 6 and 9, which seems uncommon.

What do you think of the dial ? At first glance, and after reading some advice here, the lugs seem overpolished, with almost no angles left, but it seems to be the case with most Constellations I come across at my price range.

I thank you in advance again for your precious tips.

Looks like a decent example to me and that seller has some nice watches. The lugs may be a bit polished, but the gold-capped cases never seem to be quite as sharp as SS, so maybe they were more rounded even when they were manufactured. Even with the weak yen, 348,000 JPY ($2625 USD) seems outrageous to me for what it is. I can't imagine paying that price just to buy from a retail shop/

I get the idea of chosing a professional seller for security, but all too often, that really leads nowhere or becomes a very expensive exercise. The dial of this one looks very nice, case is ok, crown is an incorrect replacement that doesnt even match the gold color of the rest of the case, gold-capped/two-tone is the least sought-after material... all in all, half that would be a realistic price in a no-reserve ebay auction. You can always stick around, learn, ask for advise, maybe pick up a good deal from a seller here with a good reputation. It's time or money, your choice which one you want to invest.

Agree with previous comments. Overpriced for what it is. Also, do not assume that just because you are a novice that you’ll get a better deal from, or at least not taken advantage of, by a dealer versus a private seller. Dealers have overhead which generally make their offerings more expensive. Some dealers are ethical in what they sell, others not so much. As MtV notes, your best bet for getting a good vintage Omega at a fair price is by monitoring the private watch sales forum right here on OF.

And unless the OP is in Japan, purchasing from that brick-and-mortar shop may not have major advantages.

Have been in touch with that seller for other watches, he does indeed have a nice collection. But was not willing to negotiate at all, even when offering to buy multiple watches. So the price (+ import tax) is what it is probably.

I see a great old survivor, worthy of respect, and still offering pleasure and service when worn. I'd rather have a 50 year old woman with a few wrinkles than a 50 year old virgin.

To each his own, but I'd rather have a fine vintage wine that has aged gracefully and become more complex than one that is just as old but has turned to vinegar.

To use your analogy: This isn’t the natural 50 year old woman with a few wrinkles. It’s a whole lot of plastic surgery, Botox, make-up and the desperate hope any interested party had a couple of drinks prior to the first encounter.

(Kinda don’t like the analogy too much as you mention respect and I have that for any human being regardless, but I hope you get my point)

Thanks for your insight and your analogies (didn't imagine it would escalate so quickly 😁). I'll stick around and won't hesitate to ask more advice, your opinion on some examples and monitor the sales on the forum.

Another question though : have you noticed vintage watch prices going up recently ? With a 10% inflation, buying collectible goods sounds smarter than keeping cash on one's bank account so it might attract some new comers on the market.

Did you see the 3 o'clock marker?

How about the A in the applied OMEGA?

Misaligned star?

It's not looking so good...

Thanks for the reply ! I noticed that the 3 o'clock marker is often missing on date models. Is this a feature or a deterioration ?

with a bit of research you should be able to come across a similar watch for half the price or %40 of it. not impossible, but might take some time.

I think what we're seeing is the result of a redial. The dial furniture was removed and then clumsily reattached in some spots. Note the absence of the tick marks at each hour.

Plus the 2 "n's" in Constellation have the wrong font and the spacing in "Swiss Made" is off.
