Well, I can't believe I'm saying this, but the one who lacks focus was very focused in this instance.
Your knife is not sharp enough...
So for opening a case with a very small gap, I will start with a one sided razor blade:
You use this to act as a wedge (don't pry - ever) and open the gap enough to get a thicker blade in. Once you work the thicker blade in all around the case back, if the back has not popped off already, move to the next thicker blade, and so on. I'll say it again, don't pry to get the back off - ever.
