One watch to rule them all or a handful is cool and all?

…… By the way I’m envious of your stained glass window and I’d prefer that over the Connie.
Mrs Spruce will be pleased. She decided she wanted one there, designed it and found a glazier who could make it.
She could have bought a decent Connie for the same price 😀

Well give mrs spruce my compliments I actually showed that picture you put up to my wife as we both appreciate that look and she also approved. I am certainly willing to trade the Connie if you want to ship that window to the US but something tells me shipping costs will favor me on this one. Probably cost a few connies to ship a window like that to the US

Collecting is different for everyone, some like to amass great quantities of Rolex, Omega or other top end watches, in that regard I am very lucky that I just love the 60's 70's dress watches which luckily are very cheap in comparison so it leaves a wide field of choice (to me) watches to choose from at unbeatably low price and with around 200 watches currently in the collection I am spoilt for choice in what I wear to the point that I have no idea what to choose on a daily basis.
As JwRosenthal says were he to sell down you could afford some nice top end watches but where is the fun in that?

Yes and it’s cool you don’t need a lot of money to collect. I’ve said before a guy I know is a big invicta collector. We aren’t like best buddies or anything I just see him everyday at the coffee shop. Now he loves his invictas and tells me all about them, he must have 40 of them (I wonder where he keeps all the big yellow floating boxes they come in) but he often looks down on my watch of the day if it’s vintage as “old stuff isn’t good” I guess but the bottom line is he loves his invictas, good for him.

Invictas may well be his Gateway Drug 😎 once he sees some of the cool vintage chronographs or retro divers that are now being sold, once his toe is in the door it doesn't take much of a breeze to blow it wide open.
Hell, even I own a few invictas 😝

I had to buy a Quartz Invicta just to get one of those big yellow floating boxes, it was cheaper to buy an unworn 2nd hand quartz which my wife liked just to get the case to complement a rare limited edition ( 1 of 6 million) I had bought new but didnt have the box it should have.

Edit, it might have been 1 out of 500 but it still only had a NH35A I would have preferred a SW200

A guy I work with in my office has a collection of Invictas- he loves them. Big gaudy things with lots of gold and black- wannabe Hublot. But he loves the bling. We talked watches a few times, he knows what I have. He asked me once to send him a link to a “nice watch” he may like, so I sent him a link to an AP skeleton ( not my taste at all but I knew he would like it). I heard him from his desk say “ahh yeah, that’s friggin cool”…. Then a pause followed by “you have got to be out of your GOD-DAMN-MIND”.
We collect what we can afford.

My midsize Bond says hi:

For me, this was a similar compromise (I bought a new FOIS at the start of the year which was high on my wish list for ages - when they discontinued it I jumped), but I actually like the size. I have bigger watches and can wear those when in the mood - the midsize makes a great summer watch (it’s on a black Perlon NATO at the moment and it really suits the watch) and sits well on my average-sized wrists.

Any collection is constrained by availability and price - I respect your approach and suspect many share it.

Oh cool can I ask what type of NATO you have it on? Did you get an omega one? I want to put it on a nato as I really like the nato on my captain cook.

I bought a black Perlon NATO strap quite inexpensively a couple of years ago - can’t remember where but you’ll be able to get something similar from a number of suppliers. But I think it suits the watch well!

And now my current happy smooth brain moment the more modern seamaster. Really like the look, very pleased with it but I did figure I’d be emitting a bond vibe when wearing it thus far my wife hasn’t noticed so apparently it does not improve my appearance
Don't worry about the whole "Bond" thing. Most people don't even notice. When I bought mine in 2005, I certainly wasn't aware of the connection. I just liked the look of it. It was only when a workmate pointed it out to me that I learned about it.
By the way, mine sez "Hi"! 😁
