    I’d rate its overall condition as 8/10. What should I do? re glue myself? what's the right adhesive to use? take it to my local leather meister to repair? or just dump it?

    Straps are a wear item, some last longer than others. You can try to glue it but I wouldn't trust it with a heavy watch like a MkII.

    Try sending it back to Hirsch with a sob story and see if they will replace it or offer a discount.

    @alam

    Apply as directed, a thin film to each surface. Allow to set until tacky. Fold over and clamp in place. This is what I use for open-ended straps around fixed lugs.

    understand, but it was originally glued by design :) just ordered a tube of shoe goo to give it a try.

    Just protect the crock side so the clamp doesn’t make an indent and mark the leather. A little light tap with a tack hammer to fully compress the glue, and a clothes peg to hold it while it dries.

    Looks like an Alligator GRAIN as opposed to an actual skin? If that is the case then crazy to attempt a repair IMO, especially on a heavy watch like the Mk2 which will naturally put more strain on the strap.

    If it is indeed a skin then more understandable as obviously much more expensive, but even so no way I'd be taking the risk on that watch. If you are planning on using glue I would 100% attempt to add some stitch for strength and security.

    that strap looks like an incubator for Covid-19 ... might be worth your health to replace.

    Am I REALLY the only one who noticed that there is a tab of leather missing, beyond the end of the strap shown in the picture? Repair as is, not possible. Maybe a clever shoemaker could stitch on an extension, but I’d say, not likely going to happen. Replace it.
