Imagine that in 2021 Omega releases the “moon landing” watch you so desire. Will you NOT purchase it because this year they releases the ‘first in space’?

I bet you will. So does Omega.

When automobiles are released, they first release the “sorta-wow,” so that when they later release the “wow-wow” two things happen: the folks with the sorta-wow trade them in, and the folks who didn’t like the sorta-wow enough are now buying the wow-wow.

not that watch companies can’t make mistakes, but I think it’s odd when folks on watch forums start to talk from the armchair in a manner that implicitly suggests there’s NO-ONE at Omega who thinks about this stuff. They’re there, with data, and teams of marketing professionals, thinking it over quite a lot - not infallible, but also not random.

18 USC sec. 875

(c) Whoever transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication containing any threat to kidnap any person or any threat to injure the person of another, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

LOL. Get some help before you run into someone who is going to hand you your a$$ tough guy.

I offered to de-escalate after you made your threat.

Offer still stands. Drinks and fish fry.

I think the car “wow-wow” metaphor is perfect and a great analogy, we have seen this with watch releases where the next is better than the last and just as @cvalue13 said, you get a flurry of trade-in’s and previous models being dumped on the used market- Omega makes their money twice.
BMW was known for doing this where the first model year of a car met with lots of fanfare but the last model year of a particular model was balls-to-the-wall with every option, best trim packages, killer (e46 M3 comes to mind- the 2001-2006 model). You can’t tell me in that 5 years all those options and trim packages were newly developed- they just trickled them out every year to keep customers coming back and blew the last model year out with options to dump the last before the new model comes out. It’s actually pretty genius and totally based in marketing psychology.
Just wait about 2 more LE’s with the 321 and the 1:1 space watch will be here.

I made no threat. I merely pointed out that you should curb your temper before you run into someone out there in the world who won’t take kindly to it. That is advice that you would be well served to take in. If your emotions got the better of you, then I am glad you are now more calm. As has been pointed out here, this is just about watches. As has also been pointed out here, all opinions count. Go on with your life and be kind to the next person you meet. As for the fish fry, I’ll pass.

all opinions count..

No, they don't. Never have.

"Don't send your watch to Omega!" is the biggest one I sometimes disagree with.

Maybe you'd like the smoked pork ribs better?

Haha this really has made me laugh.

But anyway if I may be allowed to have some negative feedback on recent Speedmasters. I have thought over the last few years that this Faux Patina era we live in is in my view a key problem in Speedmasters just selling and knocking them out of the park. Don’t get me wrong In the right way it can be great I like the Ultraman, tag monza from I think 2016 and certain seikos like the ninja turtle srpc49 look brilliant but I have yet to see it work on many Speedmasters.
I know what there doing with the 321 and it will sell but I’m not jumping up and down about it because really to me it’s a bit meh. I would love to see more dial colour variants and fancy case backs when faux time is at an end.
I’m sure Omega know what they are doing and I will stay forever faithful but it’s like all my teachers said about me “could do better”
ps please don’t shoot me or sue me

Thanks Jester

I'm pretty confident that they don't read this forum.

They do, but not for design input...

Wow. That's a thing a lot of corporations are doing more but that's pretty spiffy.

it is interesting to me that Zenith appears to be going in a similar direction to Omega with this 321. . lots of historical re-issues of classic pieces at pretty high price points

it will be very interesting to see how these brands fare

Swatch's most recent earnings report was very poor even giving appropriate consideration to the HK effect on luxury watch sales

Wow. Interesting, contentious points but the thread got carried away quickly!

For those who want to see the movement Omega could have offered a second sapphire case back as part of the package.

In principle I like the idea of having swappable case backs, to enjoy both the view (of sapphire) and the authenticity (of steel), and have looked into getting additional case backs for my own use in the past. Just wondering whether it would be a good business decision to encourage users to break into the case and expose the innards of their watch any time they feel like it for cosmetic reasons...

Considering Omega would rather you bring your watch into the boutique for strap changes- I don’t think they want you opening the back- and I believe that would void warranty anyway.
