Actually, we call it "associative", and like I said, I prefer no apostrophe. But it's hard to call centuries of usage "wrong".

Did you know the French actually have "language police"?

I don’t think “we” do

"We" meaning grammarians. When you talk about the table's leg it's pretty hard to claim that the table owns its leg.

Heh, yeah.

The usage is not in dispute, it's just that the label used to describe it has evolved over the years.
