Omega WWW-MOD replacement hands?

Hello all!

“Won” this watch at an auction in November. Billed as original dial/movement but with MOD replaced hands.

I knew there may be an issue with hands but I was and am very pleased with watch as is.

Watch needs service and I began looking for reputable service center in UK.
Obtained names and sent pictures for review pending shipping. Told looks fine overall-including movement. Asked about hands and was told according to pictures they had never seen such before. Not seen from Omega but clearly not Smiths as “hole” must be filled and no clear evidence of such in images.

So I thought I would procure some NOS vintage hands or parts and replace at service.

While searching (and searching) for hands I posted the pictures to the military watch experts website as requested. Received a forceful opinion from a senior moderator that if his watch he would not change the hands as they may in fact be correct.

(Oddly in going through this process I was able to purchase another very clean, recently restored green lume (original dial), requiring nothing/serviced and ready to wear.)

So no burden to change hands if I choose not to and leaning against it anyway.

Nonetheless, I would I would like “to know “ and decided to submit to The Omega Experts!

Regarding pictures-the lume appears well matched (hands to hour plots) and after applying light appears well matched in the dark as well.

Some high resolution shots show greenish spots at 1 o’clock and 10 seconds. These
are not present on watch crystal. Flare from camera sensor-disregard.

So overall, question is simply, were these types of hands ever used by Omega?

If not, any idea about origin?

Any idea where I can locate a set of original hands in case I ever decide to change?

Thanks!

Sean

Original hands are tough to come by. They make reproduction but stand out poorly against an old dial. The original dial has Radium markers. The MOD hands are not (to the best of my knowledge). Here is my MOD to compare the hands. Sorry about the lint on the crystal.

Sir,
Thanks so much for the reply.
Sorry about my limited tech abilities.
Observationally the hands on yours appear essentially the same as mine.

The length, style and structure appear consistent.

(While conducting due diligence before auction I had seen a set of these
hands on an Omega WWW as well as the more common syringe replacement type hand.)

The difference appears as your lume sets off boundaries of metal. With my watch in hand they appear the same.)

If done by Omega not sure why dial not replaced at time. Probably will never know.

Thanks again for the Review!

Standard set of hands and MoD dial / syringe type MoD hands and standard dial

Définitively love yours, very consistent to the watch, looks very legit actually, wouldn’t mind to have a set like these 👍

I won’t touch them if I were you

Sean,

I would like to first say that I don’t have clue if you hands are correct or not, sorry.

Even if I tend to not be a fan of green lume on a watch, yours is nice to look at. I can’t help but to think; What stories does this watch have? What has it seen? It has attractiveness to it in its current state.

However, changing the hands will, IMHO, ruin this watch as it would just not look matching/consistent with the rest of it. It will look like it is lying to you.

And, lastly I must say your post was like reading a novel. Are you a writer perhaps?

Thanks to all for taking time to post and comment.

Voting 4 to 1 against changing hands (if I could even find some period correct, for absolutely sure) and I agree would change very coherent look. (The reason I bid for it)

Not sure minty green (by restorer) would complement-particularly a slate gray/chocolate dial either.

Again, thanks!
