BTW, you're in my old stamping grounds. Spent many hours exploring pubs around Elizabeth, Gawler, the Barossa etc, they were pretty grim in those days but most seem to be "gentrified" now.
Enjoyed may a late night pie floater in King William street (helped soak up the alcohol 😁) but I think the pie vans have gone all touristy now.

Still got family there so I visit when I can but with C19 it's been put on hold for now.

Edit: For the rest of the world who have never tasted the delightful staple of Adelaide gastronomy.

Onya Jim spot I'm in the northern burbs and sadly the pie vans have long gone but I recommend the O'Connell bakery for a decent floater

Great! That's just around the corner from my sister's place.

I usually hit CIBO (O'Connell/Archer) for a coffee but I'll have to see if their floaters are up to scratch when I get over there.

In Toronto, the late-nite choice for drunk folks was Mr Pong’s famous 12” egg roll. Nice and greasy and no cutlery required. Pie floaters seem overly complicated by comparison 😉

Just Little update: after taking the omega numeral watch to an approved repairer they say the movement dates to 1939. Cost to, service, correct wear in centre wheel, plexiglass. $420.(this in original condition, suggest cleaning case, no polish)

That's not too bad a price. Service (in A$ ) should be possible for 250. Wheel: under 50. Glass plus fitting: another 50. So, 420 is quite ok. Request 1 year warranty on the service. Kind regards from Coffs Harbour. Achim

Agreed, price isn’t bad especially if they offer a warranty. Be very sure you stress that you don’t want them to mechanically polish the case at all- just hand clean it (like toothbrush and soapy water after the movement is out is all that’s needed).
You won’t find a finer or cooler watch for the money so just think of the expense as just that- buying a very cool watch for under $500 with family provenance.
And have them show you how to change the strap and get yourself a strap tool (they are fairly cheap). You can have fun dressing it up with whatever you want that fits.

Superb find, that 1940s one is gorgeous. Have it serviced, ask that they do not perform any cosmetic work (case, dial) and wear with pride. Topnotch quality, family history, and killer looks. What do you want more.

Where’d you take it? I’ve been looking at Richard McMahon on King William St for an upcoming repair but interested to know who else is servicing Adelaide.

Yes I took to Richard on King William Street, he seems to me he knows what he's talking about and I found him to be very straight forward. The repair/service takes about a month.

She’s come out very well! I’ve enjoyed following this thread and I hope you enjoy wearing your newly serviced heirloom! Great choice on a smart black strap, but I think it will suit a variety of plain straps. Have fun experimenting!

With thanks to you and all those on the forum who encouraged me to see it through repaired working and enjoyed.

Good idea about a variety of bands will start looking

Cheers
