Please can anyone help me in confirming whether this is a genuine watch. Its 9ct Gold Cased and dated for Sheffield 1978.

I am unable to identify the makers mark, and when I put the serial number in on omega search tool nothing comes up.

Should the watch face have a seconds hand as well?

I think it looks suspect.

It all looks fine to me. It's a locally (English) cased watch.
The 9ct case was made by David Shackman & Sons so the number won't bring up any results like Swiss produced cases will.
The caliber 625 has hour and minute hands only.

The serial number will definitely help date the watch. If you can provide a clear photo of the serial number we can ID it for you.

Movement is not a sweep second design, but dial appears to have been refinished
