Omega vintage watch from my grandfather. What do you think?

Hello!
I have this Omega vintage watch from Italy and i'd like to show you.
It was given yesterday as a christmas present from my grandfather, who is 93 years old.
He said he won it at a card game a long time ago (maybe 40 or more years ago), and it hasn't been used so much in those years, since it was taken from his safe.
The watch wasn't in use from many years, so we brought it to a watch jeweler for a 'check up'. The jeweler sent the Omega to a specialized laboratory and we paid 60 euros for the check up and -if i remember correctly- for the replacement of the two main clock hands (wich wasn't working).
I wasn't smart to asking for a picture of the inside part of the watch, but the jeweler said that it was an original Omega.
The 'watch case' is large about 37-38 mm and rear has a sort of dirt-residue from the strap.

I took the following pictures with my reflex camera, and a 100mm 1:1 macro lens (i don't know of to upload the hi-res files, so i'll do my best).

Then, what do you think about it?

Since i have to buy a new strap, what's your advice about it? (in terms of material, colors etc.)

Thank you all

Roberto

Hey, Roberto. Great watch your grandfather gave you. I like it a lot. Probably a reference 2505, with the dial repainted long time ago, at least partially, because the OMEGA text font is not right and the seconds subdial is not well centered. However, with dials this old there is a chance it may be original. Enjoy and wear it in good health!!. I personally like brown crocodile straps.

It's surely a redial and hands are not original

The guy just got it as a gift from his grandfather, have a little nuance... :whipped:

Looks nice. Wear it in good health!

I personally like ostrich leather.

A very charming watch! I think it would look great on a simple leather band; a black calfskin strap would give it a formal look, or a rich brown leather for a more relaxed feel. Either way it is a lovely heirloom to have.

Gifted by 93-year old grandpa who won in it a game of cards before you were even a gleam in your father's eyes? I like that a lot 👍👍

I did not want to be rude, a redial is a problem just for experienced collectors, it remains a very nice watch to wear

Very handsome and wearable old watch with a family provenance. Enjoy it. One note ... back in the day folks were not precious about refinishing/replacing dials on a valued watch.

Thank you all for your precious comments!
Today, looking for a good strap, i found in my town a small watchmaker laboratory. The man was kind to open my Omega.
The result are pictures not very detailed with my camera-phone.
Let's see..

I see that the "Omega" font looks really old.
Could you help me finding the date of this watch and what do you think about this movement?

Early 30's. The movement looks like a 23.7. But could be a version of the 26.5 with a hidden click. What is its size?

Edit: I have just seen that it is my 1000 post. Happy that it was for a heirloom and (likely) a 23,7!

I think it's great that you got such a nice watch from your grandfather with an interesting story too. I'd have it serviced and keep everything aesthetically the same and wear it proudly on a nice leather strap.
