Omega Speedmaster

Hello,

I was going through my father's jewelry and found two Omega Watches. I listed the other one on the vintage board I am now listing this one to get more information on it. I read through some posts about fake watches, but this one catches my eye as the movement is so smooth and was not able to find a serial number on the back near the push buttons and I know the watch band is completely wrong and is not right, but I just want others opinions on it. I think it is fake, but not 100% sure since I am new to Omega watches so I am not well versed in this. What do you think about this watch? Thank you in advance and pardon my newbie status.

Hello @Doug G

Here's my two cents' worth.

From the two pictures you've posted here, I am guessing we are looking at a perfectly correct '69 Speedmaster (145.022-69). Appears original, that said, the rule is that the more there is to see, the more there is to be observed. Please do share more pictures and preferably more detailed ones for everyone here to help you assess this watch. This could be a really nice one for sure...

Awesome! Thank you for the information. I am attaching more pictures of it. I think the band is not right. I would like to get a new band that is right for the watch.

Definitely not fake. Glad you posted here before tossing it! Omega did not start putting serial numbers on the lugs u til the 1990s, about 30 years after this watch was made. Looks to be in very nice shape.

What do you guys think it is worth? Where do you think I can find an original band for it? I am looking at the https://speedmaster101.com/ site and wow there is a lot there. So I am just trying to get my feet wet with this watch. It could use a good cleaning, but I will see. Thank you all for the confirmation and the wonderful information.

Thank you and this is perfect information. Does the band look right on it? To me it seems a bit off.

Well I am one for knowledge and learning, but I am a Breitling guy myself. Please do not hold it against me 😀 I will never sell it as it is my Grandfathers.

You can wipe it down, but don't polish or refinish it. If you wind up selling it someone will want it in it's current condition. People want vintage watches to look vintage. Collectors want the history and scratches to be there - not erased. Refinishing is a permanent and irreversible step.

Oh I completely get what you are saying and I will not refinish it. Just give it a good wipe down is all. Thank you for the information. Good stuff.

There is a pricing table on William’s site. If it were me, price would be irrelevant considering the heirloom quality of having it come from my father. To each their own of course. A lot of us prefer to keep and wear vintage watches that show their age honestly. I’m sure it could stand to have the movement serviced by a professional but I would not have them touch the case, dial, or hands if at all possible. You’re lucky to have found such a treasured connection to your father in this watch. It’s something that a lot of us can only dream of. Wear it in good health.

On the price chart, it is a -69 DO90 in Good condition. You're correct that the bracelet is not right for the watch. The classic bracelet would be a 1039 with 516 endlinks. There are a few other options that would be ok, e.g. Holzer or 1175.

That’s a very nice watch you found. If you keep it, don’t forget to make a service on it.

Sorry
Thank you and this is perfect information. Does the band look right on it? To me it seems a bit off.

Apologies for not having been clear; I was just referring to the watch head. You’re spot in that the bracelet is quite wrong.

Bracelet looks wrong, yes. But isn't it also upside down? lol.

If you wear watched upside down I understand why you think it is wrong 😀
