You're looking at an Omega Speedmaster Split-Seconds Automatic Chronometer Chronograph reference 3540.50.00, in very good condition, a few swirls on the clasp, but it looks to have not been worn much.

I bought it from the original owner through eBay, and then met to take it off his hands face to face in September 2016. He works in finance in the City of London, and is very very into Rolex. He told me this was an impulse purchase in duty free somewhere between 2005 and 2009, and that he hadn't worn it much. As far as I could understand, mostly because it wasn't a Rolex. So it had sat in a box, and he was moving it on as it was taking up room in the safe.

This model was introduced at Basel in 1999 and released in 2001 - AJTT shows a little over 6000 movements produced, which would tie in with the claimed figure of 5000 watches sold.

I'm not sure exactly when/where this was sold, or which year it was produced in, but have emailed Omega Customer Service in the hope of a little more information.

This is a full set, on full length bracelet, including new genuine Omega Red Box, Outer white box, card holder (bought from the Sloane Square OB last year), all three cards (unstamped guarantee, pictogram, chronometer), and the correct set of operating instructions.

I've worn it and enjoyed it, but realise that I've maybe over indulged in the last few months and need to free up some funds.

Reduced to £1,995.00 net to me.

Watch is located in London, UK - face to face viewing is welcome - lots of people here know me, and will vouch that I'm not a total loon (I hope).

I'm very surprised this is still available. It's a very impressive watch.

I was talking to Simon at STS a few weeks back about selling these "interesting" pieces.

The Speedmaster 125, Mk2-Mk4.5, Speedmaster moonphase... are all very cool, but don't have the kudos of the original 321/861/1861 moonwatch, so don't sell for as much, or as fast.

Patience, and realistic pricing should hopefully see this in someone elses hands 😀

Agree. I've always liked the 125 but it doesn't work for my skinny wrist.

On paper, the 125 is so cool, but even on my not so skinny wrists it just didn't work for me.

I think that's why you see the same watches come back to market again and again, and often sit unsold for 6 months at a time.

Even with this split seconds being in such good condition, and complete with all the bits it should have, I have no illusions that it's not to everyone's taste. 👍

I think one of the main stumbling blocks, is that most of the members here, will have never seen or worn a split second, so they don't know how nice it is in the flesh...

If Her Majesty's Tax demands hadn't been so demanding, I would have snapped this up a week ago 📖

With you on that Rob - I'd never seen one before buying it, and generally, they photograph terribly - even the Omega Press shots at time of launch aren't great, either making it look unbalanced, or bleaching out the carbon.

I really can't imagine paying the £5k that was asked for these... but at £2.5k for a split-seconds, automatic, chronometer, I think this was good value - at £2k it's a bargain.

Yup...these are interesting ......but not to everybody's tastes and certainly not investment pieces. I have a 125, 4.5 and moonphase, and did own a split-second. All very cool in my eyes but looking at the market will not get what I think they are worth. That said, your watch is a steal for what it does.
