If I pick it up in Canada, then I pay the Canadian price? That is appealing to me. I could pick it up in Windsor as I work just east of Detroit. Is it just as simple as changing the AD with Omega?

If I get the final Canadian pricing, I will let you know. So far what I have heard it's 7.3k plus tax.

Even if there are duties bringing it back into US and minor exchange rate fees, that's still significantly better.

Total sales tax in Ontario is 13%. So if it's $7300 ...... That would bring the total to $8249.

Yup, saves about $1,200 for an hour drive. No brainer.

Assuming that Omega allows you to transfer and pick up at a Canadian AD (Boutique is only located in Vancouver) and a gas of tank plus a trip to Canada is part of the festivities...

Are you sure it is $1,200 savings (assuming you quoting USD)...

As another member mentioned, Ontario tax is 13% (not sure how it compares to your local state tax as a comparison) which brings the watch to $8,250 CAD or $6,100 USD (that just pure exchange rate with out fees). Plus import and duty which on watches and jewellery is 10-20% and their service charges along with credit card fees on currency service between USD and CAD usually 3%... you might come out with something really close.

Still worth while if the math works out enough, but also advantageous if your local boutique or AD are willing to provide better after purchase service.

EDIT: Quick Math in CAD: $7,300 X 13% tax (Ontario) = $8,250 + 20% (duty and import if the US isn't friendly) + 3% credit card fee (unless you have Canadian credit card) = $10,197 CAD or $7,545 USD VS. $6,500 USD + your local tax.

That's also assuming it is a straight exchange rate transaction.

Where did you get a 20% duty and import? I got this from CBP: 9.9% + US$1.55 per piece

I started with a range of 10-20%. I placed a 20% value as a worst case scenario, based on my past experiences (reverse US to Canada). My total bill has always amounted between 10-20% of the declared value of the item if they decided to charge me.

If it is 10% then the quick math above works out to be $9,347 CAD or $6,920 USD on straight exchange before currency fees.

Whether the savings works out is a different story. I'm just posting a comparative on the true values if you went through the entire process not just CAD MSRP is $7,300 vs the US MSRP is $6,500.

I'll call the AD in Canada tomorrow and ask them if they charge CC or currency fees. That seems off to me.

The AD in Canada won't charge you a currency fee. Your credit card company does when you swipe something out of the country. Depending on which company your credit card company is VISA, AMEX, Mastercard. I.E. using TD Bank VISA for example. They charge you the posted currency conversion rate that day + a 2.5% currency conversion fee or if an AMEX usually 3.0%. It's a fee the credit card company charges not the AD.

Same would apply if you go to the bank and ask for $7,300 CAD cash. They are not going to exchange exactly on the posted rate, they would likely charge the same % as a credit card above (again depending the bank you use). Of course the 2.5%-3.0% won't apply if you either have a CAD credit card or your credit card in general has a perk that negates those charges.

So bare minimum there is a charge for duty/customs + currency conversion on the CC. Whether the math works or doesn't work for you is a different scenario.

Got it. Was cornfused. My card doesn't charge a foreign transaction fee, so good to go there. So after all that, it looks like about a $500 savings vs. $1200. Still worth it methinks, but who knows. Right now I'm scheduled to pick it up at my local AD so may just stick with that.

Haha, hopefully I didn't sound confusing. Cheers bud!

Good thing you have a CC that doesn't charge that fee. Savings is savings either way... just didn't want others to be surprised when they got home and saw their bill with numbers that looked at par as if they got it at their AD. Plus the intrinsic value of a local AD (and their service) as well as the time spent to try to get some savings.

I've been lead to believe by head office that I'm in the first batch, so in theory only QC can delay!

Thanks. My number is very close to the 806 shown on the recent picture by Omega, so wonder if it would fall in the first batch.....
