More likely if it came from the passenger seat, mine had the dealer optional whale tail yet still managed to wiggle its rear enough to scare the stuffing out of a couple of my dates . ..
Ah, those were the days. I drove a 997 Turbo on-track a couple of weeks ago and it was, well frankly, too well-behaved rear axle-wise! The GT3 RS decals are of course a spoof!
I got a bit suckered in by the article. The guy talked about the smell of leather as the car roared down the road, wind in the hair type of thing. I didn't think about sweaty fart smell. Hopefully my strap will come from the bit on the back of the seat. Oh well if it smells of fart Robert Jan Broer will get to hear about it
Back in the 80s the original owners of the 928 also wore those ultra tight mens shorts, so there's ball-sweat to factor in too. This man has probably sat on your strap. In those shorts.
FOR SALE one rally strap with traces of ball sweat, fart and coke residue. Accepting offers over 50p.
Wasn't listed as a normally available (Signal Orange, I think) colour. It's possible the owners of the car - a track day business - have had it repainted that colour - along with the decals - to achieve an approximate GT3 RS look-alike. I say this because I suspect the colour was available ex-factory as a special order for the GT3 RS model only (?)
Why would you take a perfectly good 911 turbo and tart it up to pretend (badly) that it was a GT3? GT2 which is also turbo and wide bodied I could maybe understand but GT3? Madness!
There's a lot that goes on in the Porsche world I don't understand, the number of classic SC's and older that have been turned into faux 993s with body kits, or into 964s with bumper kits is quite sad, they were cool and special cars in their own right before they were messed with. There's a dude on the Gold Coast with an SC converted into a 959, yet its so poorly maintained and in need of work that it can barely make it up hills, so you wonder what's the point. This is all highly OT though considering the thread lol
I empathise - but given the commercial purpose of this particular car, it possibly makes sense for the owners as I'd guess that most event customers who go out in it and don't know their Porsches in detail, think they've driven a GT3 RS and there's a cachet in that for some. For me it was interesting as I'd not driven a water-cooled Porsche before. And I'd have to say that I'd prefer a 993 or earlier air-cooled car every time!
Many of the older cars that were aesthetically 'updated' are being returned to stock look, as that is where the $$$ is. Those who swapped out their 3.0 and 3.2 motors for 3.6s have tough decisions, as the cars are much more fun with 3.6s, but of course that is not 'stock'. And many sold their 3.0s and 3.2s, and are now trying to locate replacements.
Sorry chaps - must be 'me OCD' - I'd better go over to one of the Porsche forums and post some Omega nonsense!
Here is an indication of my opinion on modifications to 911s. My 997 as received: Now with me putting it back right:
Ha but I am bloody impressed that you spotted that it is indeed a 406, not mine thank God. Good knowledge, bravo. Full pic:
Well done for taking that in good part. Like your car by the way, and you are very right about the wheels.
