If you read back a few pages you'll see it's the 15 minute hold and high traffic causing it but most are just browsing, keep trying in a bit and they'll keep releasing, a heap more should become available as well when the 24 hour email confirmation expires for many people that didn't confirm so I'm sure you haven't missed out yet.
Reading through the 7 pages of fantastic posts this is how I imagine the Omega Forum community over the past fews hours.
Things they got right: 225 bezel, vintage applied logo, and reverse panda dial. They dropped the ball on a lollipop chrono hand though.
The lollipop was already on the previous ck2998 panda if people are after that and there's still a lot of those around on the secondary market at reasonable prices. It is a feature I quite like but not sure if it'd really look appropriate in a Pro case.
So annoyed with a no notice scramble. How about a drawing/lottery or something a bit more fair next time Omega?
You haven't missed out mate there will be more coming available again as the 15 minute hold releases and many more in 20-24 hours as unconfirmed orders are available again. Keep trying in a bit and then tomorrow if you don't get one today.
I also like some of this - panda, luminous subdials, manual winding, etc. Just not wild about 42mm size. Personally, I prefer a 40mm or smaller watch, but that's me. (I'm also not a big fan of the engravings on back, but nobody sees that anyway...)
Quick lessons we can learn from this today: 1.- When a LE is designed with the help of true collectors and connaiseurs (i.e. Mr. Robert-Jan Broer) it is a hit. 2.- Did you EVER imagine buying a reverse panda, applied logo, brushed cased and radial subdials speedy??? and as a LIMITED EDITION?? 3.- Furthermore, apart from design, when you are a major watch brand and decide to sell online is a big step. When you decide to sell online a LE and let the people choose its unit number... this is a true customer experience. 4.- And we must wait some hours to see... watch was launched at Europe noon so our colleagues in far East were in their evenings and/or going to bed and people in West Coast and western South America were sleeping... when these guys enter in this game, I do not think this watch is going to be available for more than 24-28 hs. 5.- So THIS is truly important, apart from design, apart from horological matters, the real game here is how this have been communicated, purchased and the experience of purchasing we have had. Now I think I have reserved something very very special.
Omega is finally realizing the worship factor of one of their products. They should be smiling all the way to the bank, as well as their customers - Omega to deposit the money, Speedy groupies to withdraw to pay. Well done Omega!
I love the older style applied logo and loopy script for 'Speedmaster'; would have really suited the FOIS 'Wally Schirra'...
@cicindela - your wife didn't want one too? That would make a great Christmas card - a shot of all 4 of you with your LE Speedies, one bird on your shoulder and one on hers! ..... or better yet, eye patches and puffy shirts with vests for September 19th! EDIT: BTW, Talk Like a Pirate Day (Sept 19th) is on a Tuesday this year.
You know I still really hope one day they shock us at Baselworld by moving back to the vintage style Omega logo for the brand, its a beautiful design that stands out far more and would look great on an Aqua Terra or Seamaster 300.
