Well, as ever, buy it for enjoyment, not as an investment.
I'm not sure looking at how the old watches have done is a yardstick for how current ones will do. The early ones have gone up in value because of their scarcity, because they were the originals and because of their historical significance with the space race. I'm not sure any of that applies here.
Only a very, very small minority of watches even retain their value, let alone have their value increase. You're on a bit of a hiding to nothing hoping for a profit from a watch.
But does it matter? It's just a piece of jewellery. If you like it buy it and enjoy it, any retention of value is really just a bonus. It shouldn't inform your thinking.
