Omega Speedmaster Reduced Day-Date 3523.50 Info Needed

Hello OmegaForums! I just entered the world of Omega watches this week after purchasing a Triple Date reduced Speedmaster with beautiful black dial; Ref. 3523.50, off a US-based ebay seller with 100% rep on 650+ transactions. The watch appears to be identical in everything but dial color to the vastly more common silver and blue dial Ref. 3523.30 and 3523.80, respectively. My example has the same caseback design, same crown, same distinctive "machine-like" self-winding mechanism the other 3523s are known for, but with one distinct difference....

No one talks about it. Even in this forum, there are only three mentions of the reference number, with the last being an offhand comment in 2019. Omega's own "Vintage Watches" collection doesn't refer to the 3523.50 on their site. I wasn't having any concerns with this watch at all until I tried to find it on Omega's own site which does feature 3523.30 and 3523.80.

There are plenty of sales listings on ebay, Chrono24, and other sites, and I did find one tidbit from a sales listing that this specific reference is a Japan-only special release. Would that be a valid reason for its reference number not being found in the Omega site, but sold occasionally by Japanese resale companies?

My serial number of 9000XXXX puts it in what appears to be the 2000 manufacture date range if the Serial Number Decoder site is to be believed. Outside of the confusion and lack of info on this specific reference number, I think my specific example looks and wears GREAT! I'm absolutely enamored, and it's keeping time at +2 sec/day, but has unknown service history so I may get it taken in and looked at sometime soon. Definitely planning on adding more Omegas to the collection going forward, but thought it would be best to get a confirmation on this one while the returns window is still open.

Thanks in advance!

Awesome, thanks for confirming! Am I correct in assuming everything looks in order for the reference?

Thanks Archer! I do think I'm going to get a watchmaker to open the case back and inspect it in the next couple of weeks given the unknown service history, but super excited to finally own an Omega!

Please note that this is a press fitted case back. It uses a hard plastic seal that deforms, and it requires a press to fit the case back. Once the seal has been deformed from pressing the case back on, when you try to use that seal again, it will not hold the case back in place with the same force. These seals are not intended to be used more than once, so if you are getting a watchmaker to open the watch, please make sure they have access to Omega parts, and can get a new seal for when they press the case back on again.

Many watchmakers who don;t have access to parts will tell you that they can be used again, but there will be a risk of leaks by doing so.

This is great information as I wouldn't have thought to ask this! The seller of the watch indicated Ebay removed the caseback to verify its authenticity sometime last year. Do you know if Ebay actually removes the caseback when conducting their aithenticity reviews, and whether they would be aware to use a new seal when closing the watch back up?

No idea - sorry...
