im a fan of speedmasters. To the point where I'm on my way to a small collection of them.

The professional moonphase model has caught my eyes a few times. But something always keeps me from buying. Would like your thoughts in favor or against.

I love moonphase watches. It's the curse of being born in July. I had one of those watches a few years ago and found the chrome (?) rings around the subdials to be annoying and distracting. Sold it and bought the version with the beige dial and blue hands and markers. Life is better now.

I'm drawn to these too... but don't think I'll ever own one.

Two reasons:

1) The silver rings.

2) The sheer quantity of these available at heavy discount... that just sit there... and don't sell. That worries me.

Nice. I've got a 1447/805, but no 345.809 for it.. 馃槵

It's an interesting bracelet because it's the first one to have Speedmaster engraved on the clasp.

Here endith the lesson.

Edit, to add, it's pretty much identical to, but predates the infamous 1450.

A couple of interesting tidbits of info regarding the Speedymoon 345.0809

Unlike the later models, all the date feet point inward

The 345.0809 features a no inscription medallion caseback. This caseback was first introduced, for a very short time, with the 145.022-71, shown below.

A moon phase complication for a moon watch is a great combo.
Here is my aventurine version which is a personal favorite.

I love this aventurine version - I stared at one daily for about three months in a local AD window. I don't think they're available anymore, unfortunately.

The dial symmetry on these, although a cliched answer, is great, and there is something cool about moonphase chronographs.. not to mention the addition of date to a Speedy in such a subtle way.

On top of all that, moonphase on a 'Moonwatch' is cool

I had a 3576.50 for a long while. Probably one of my favourite standard/black dialled Speedmaster Professionals - a bit more interesting than the standard Moon Watch, but still retains it's classic look. Not sure why there's so much aversion to Sapphire crystal in so many collectors - it's a much more sturdy material than Hesalite and looks great to my eyes. To each their own though!

So, decided on getting one. Now it's a matter of which version.

Definetely the 80s version is top list. If one comes across I'm definitely going for it. But they are rare. And I haven't seen a good one for sale ever.

You can buy, if Seller is willing to deal with you.

Hit the FS ad, click on the sellers avatar pic, and in the pop up, send him a message. Can't hurt, right?

Aventurine all the way, I love mine. OB Regent Street in London had one left with steel bracelet last time I was there.
