I've seen that one. It's sold twice then re-listed. Made me a bit curious.

The serial number is not a problem. I've owned 3 of them and two had lower numbers and I had Extract of the Archives for them that confirmed two low numbers and they were ok.

One other thing to consider when looking for a service, especially for a crystal. They require a special tool and some people don't have them and can end up breaking new crystals trying to install them.

The restoration is now over a grand at some of the more reputable places. But...I still wear mine virtually every day!

Thats an unusual serial to see in a MkII.
2960xxxx is usually seen in the 145.022 and MkII's usually are 31m+
Are there any other MkII owners with a serial this close?
I have a soft spot for MkII's
Mine have a Racing dial and the serial number is 30.9 mill

I have once owned a Mark II with serial 29.605.xxx

I also had an Extract from the Archives (good old times):

That's crying out for a sapphire crystal to bring it into more practical use.
Should be plenty of meet in the case to refinish it with the proper radial brushing and polished facets.

Good catch!

MK II watches came with a mineral crystal so they picked up a lot of scratches in normal wear. They were usually replaced with a new one when serviced.

More recent Mk II rereleases had sapphire crystals. I wonder if the case dimensions and securing gasket or whatever are the same. It’s not stupid to suggest dropping one in. If it actually fits of course. They are both flat so you wouldn’t get the optical difference you do with the pro. I dimly recall there being an aftermarket sapphire crystal too. The mk2 is bulky, deep and top heavy and the crystals do take a lot of hits.

You can get one for the 145.014, not cheap though: https://tmwatchco.com/product/omega-speedmaster-145-014-sapphire-crystal/

When you think of that way, you're right. A quick search shows that aftermarket glass crystals aren't far ahead. I have one of these but haven't gotten around to install it yet.

Having gone through three mineral glass crystals, that TM Watch sapphire is a bargain!
It has not only made my Mark II my usable classic daily, it also tested to more 5 bar water resistance, which is plenty for me not to worry about the odd splash.

I have a TM Watch sapphire crystal on my MKII (he also serviced it for me) and it is great.

I bought a random collection of parts from a retired watchmaker who had trained with Omega in Switzerland. He had maintained a particular interest in Omega over the years and had accumulated a range of parts. One of the items I got is a NOS tritium MK2 dial. Totally unmarked and mint. I already have a racing dial MK2 in good original condition and had been on the lookout for ‘project’ watch for my dial. However, I have too many projects on the go and will likely end up selling this one.

Hello, I can see a hazy and milky effect on your crystal. My watch has the same. Do I need to be worried. Do you know the reason why this happens. I could not see any moist however. But at certain angels the crytal looks milky and hazy.

Prob a light misting of movement oil on the inside. If so could be cleaned up at service. Or moisture which really would be a problem. Either prob need looking at sooner rather than later.
