OMEGA SPEEDMASTER BARN FIND GHOSTED DIAL 1450 BRACELET!!!

Dear Forum,

I have recently acquired a perfectly running Omega Speedmaster. Judging by the amount of dust and dirt that was on the watch, I think it has not been worn in at least 10 year or more. The watch has a 861 caliber, and a domed dial. The case back has 145022- 74 ST written on it which would suggest it is from the 70's, but the movement number starts with 455 * * * * * which would mean it is from the mid 80's. The watch came with a 1450 bracelet with 808 end links with the original quick release pin . The watch has a really nice ghosted dial, and I think the original Omega plexi without the Omega logo.

I would like to ask:
What do you think this watch is worth?
Is is it rare to have the bezel in such a good condition?
I polished the plexi glass, do you think that was a mistake?
Did this watch originally come with a 1450 bracelet?
Do the watch parts look original?

Thank you for your help!😀

I know absolutely nothing about Speedmasters, but all I can say is that it looks cracking for a barn find..! Curios If it was a complete free find or did you give a couple of rusty coins for it?

I can’t see any issues with polishing the acrylic, personally.

Hello, nice find.

I am far from expert on Speeemasters and I hope some of them will chime in.

The first thing that strikes me is that I like the overall look of it.

The second one is that the hour and the minute hands look weird to me. Especially the hour hand, it strikes me as "too wide".

Hopefully someone knowledgeable will give their opinion also

Enjoy your find. Overall very nice watch.

I also think the hands have been replaced with non Speedy Pro hands - probably replaced during service sometime in the past with hands from another model that fit the 861 which the watchmaker had on hand. But for a barn-find that presumably didn’t cost a whole lot, that’s not a major problem, IMO, and pretty easy to fix.

Thanks for your reply, it was just the watch, it was auctioned by a company that knows nothing about watches

Hour and minute hands are wrong to this watch and come from another cal.861-powered watch.

Pushers have a very thin neck, interesting.

That bezel is correct and aged nicely.

45M is a serial for Circa 1986 so there is a good chance this watch is a whole bunch of put together parts.

The way to go would be to order an extract from the Omega Archives and see what comes back. This might cost you 130 CHF for nothing if your watch is what I assumed above as they will reject your request w/o refund in that case. Otherwise, if this movement is a Moonwatch movement, you will get an extract with the exact production date and it will probably confirm that the caseback is not original to this watch.

That's all I can say at this stage. 😉

Do you know which reference number watch these hands come from?

To me, the hands look more like the ones for a Mark II Speedmaster, not 100% sure though.

As others have noted, the serial is too late for a -74, as is the dial. Hands come from a Mk II Speedmaster. My Speedy knowledge caps out after the -74's, but my eyes tell me that dial corresponds to the last run of 145.022's (the subdials look like 90's tritium Speedmasters). When valued for parts, it's likely still worth more than you paid. If you enjoy the way it looks, then I wouldn't worry about the period correctness and would get it serviced and wear it.

the case looks nice and sharp, despite some small nicks and scrapes. that bracelet is worth a pretty penny too. congrats on a nice daily use watch.

Movement number coincides with a 80's 145.0022. Dial as well. Pushers look a little thick like someone mentioned but this would be easy to fix as you can order direct from Omega. Hands as well are incorrect.

We can either assume the only thing not 80's is the midcase or just the caseback alone.

The 1450/808 only came on the late 80's models.

Might just need a 145.0022 case back with short Q. Be a cheaper option than finding a -74 dial, movement, and bracelet.

Thank you for your input,

How is it possible to order parts from Omega, by email?

Thanks

Are you really considering to order parts without even knowing if your movement is a Speedmaster Moonwatch movement? 🤦

Without knowing that for sure, even with new parts ordered your Speedmaster will remain an incoherent bunch of put together parts, like it is now.
