If the wait list is so long? Why are there so many on Chrono24 at discount already? Seems to me if those on the wait list really wanted one, they would pick one up from one of those sellers or even the one listed in the for sale section! I think at these price points, there are so many other choices for people to make from Patek, AP, Lange,...
Yes, the model can be found on C24, but with a markup. The main target audience (ie, Speedy collectors) is likely already on the allocation list. I will also guess that most of this (our) crowd is not necessarily the one that is also interested in PP, Lange or VC (due to taste and/or budget reasons)... so it will not pay above retail.
I would call myself a pretty big Speedy and Omega collector(up to 20 Omega's now, half are speedy's) or so right now but to me once the price point exceeds $20K you have to start considering the big brands as you step into another level. I know some of those VIP Omega's on that list and I can tell you they are definitely comparing the higher end Omega pieces to the brands you mention.

I can totally understand what you describe and it makes complete sense to me. When I think of these other brands, I see models that are in the mid/high 5 digits to 6 digit price levels, so this is why I was not necessarily thinking that there is a truly direct competition. I guess I am too biased towards Omega and the Speedy models to be objective... so as always, my opinion is only worth just a mere $0.02.

No worries. I appreciate different views as well and it is definitely worth more than a few cents! I was biased towards Omega for many years until I got to the point that I could afford something more so started looking what else was out there. Found Patek and then Lange. Omega is awesome at what they do at the market they play in. When you start to compare their high end, you start opening your choices to others which are more hand made, better finishing etc. if you ever have time. Drop by a store that carries Lange and just take a look at their watches and you will be amazed!
