Have two 3861 moonwatches and a 321 EW, the Ed White definitely sits a bit taller than 3861s. Depends on how you look at it, sometimes I think the more pronounced wearing experience of EW constantly reminds you that you have a special piece on your wrist. But if you want the absolute best-wearing Speedmaster, IMO the 3861 Speedy Pros are hard to beat, which is why I haven't sold off my 3861 Hesalite after getting the EW.

You’re killing me bro 😉. I just looked at the technical specs - you’re right - the 321 is thicker - which I assume is mostly because of the sapphire case back. The FOIS wears taller because of the rounded crystal. Neither is an issue IMHO.

If you’re concerned about the 321 being to too tall or top heavy - it’s not. Call Kodak Jewelers in Hoboken - ask for Luke - he does all the social media videos - I’m sure he can help you out.

Shoot. I would’ve original said my max height for a watch was 12.7mm, but than I discovered the 3861 actually wears quite low, even when loose.

I had a 321 and sold it due to it wearing big on my wrists. It definitely had the "hockey puck" feel; it was the same reason I ended up selling my 2019 FOIS as well. The straight lugs don't help.

The 3861, on the other hand, fits like a dream.. Which speedmasters do you have?

Why don't you go with the 3861? Then, if you decide you must have the Ed White later, at least you'll have something that you know you'll like in the interim.

My concern with the 3861 is the black dial is a little boring, especially in comparison to the jet black glossy modern reference submariner I have. Maybe it won't be an issue, but just a short term concern. The 321 is less busy than the 3861 as well, but if the 321 is too puck-like that may not work either. I have not seen in person a 50th anniversary, but with the enamel grand feu it's an interesting option and even thinner than the 3861. Just to be clear, I don't dislike the 3861.

I like the dial and straight lugs of the 321 over the 3861, at least in pictures anyway, but it's not that I dislike the 3861. I was also hoping I could do a 321 black now and than a 3861 either white dial or panda whenever they release it a few years from now. But I have a strong dislike for puck like watches.

I've got a few other 1861 anniversary speedmasters and the gen 1 x33. The shorter lug to lug and crown guards make them all wear better than the 321/fois for me.

The 3861 dial is not boring by any means. It's true the 321 dial is on another level in terms of quality and clarity. However, the 3861 dial is 95% the same as the original 105012 dial. The only differences are short hour markers, no applied logo, and the modern Omega font.

I very much agree. Though EW 321 looks beautiful, it's definitely a bit taller than 3861 and it reminds me I am wearing a bit bulky one. 3861 is a much better wear in my opinion. 321 takes less wear time than 3861 (I have both hesalite and sapphire).

Doesn’t the hesalite technically sit even lower than the sapphire as a result of the metallic caseback instead of the glass caseback? I know I can poly the hesalite but I dunno if I’ll find the micro abrasions annoying and find myself doing that all the time. I’ve only seen the sapphire and hesalite indoors, they probably behave quite differently outdoors. I noticed I couldn’t see the hesalite from the driving wheel angle we’ve been discussing, looks blurry.
