Hi guys,

I’m still looking for a vintage speedmaster, and on my quest for the ‘perfect’ example, perfect to me at least, I got offered this 145.022 from ‘69.

I think I know a thing or two about speedies but I’m not an expert so I would really appreciate it if you guys could take a look and see if there’s anything wrong with this example.

So, it’s a 145.022 st 69 like I mentioned before, has the DON bezel (does it look too good?) and a 1039 bracelet with 516 endlinks from Q2 ‘70. Aside from the scratch on the plexi, I did not find anything weird. In fact, I think this speedie looks really good with a very nice (unpolished?) case.

Also, the seller doesn’t really know how much to ask and I don’t really know what to offer. Could anyone give a fair value of this watch?

Thank you very much.

If the lume is all there I agree 100% with you. To dissipate all doubts I guess we would need a nice photo under daylight and some UV to check the tritium

Thank you all for the replies. The seller has now offered me the watch at €6000. I think I will go check out the watch in person and bring a UV light like @NotAClue mentioned to see whether te lume is there.

Still, let me know if anyone thinks the offered price is too high/low.

Nice find, the watch appears to be in excellent overall condition. If it’s a private party, cash and no tax, 6000 euro is a very fair price, especially considering condition, DON bezel, bracelet, etc. The scratch on crystal can probably be polished out.
Good luck.

The lume seems to be complete from the pictures. 6000€ is a good price for a 145.022-69 with DON and 1039.. Especially in this conditions!

Question: a 296xxxxx serial would be correct right?

Yes, also a range known for brown dials.

Thanks! Was just reading about that! I've asked for pictures in sunlight/outside to see whether it is indeed a brown dial. Could make me pull the trigger.

If it helps you in any way; even if it wouldn’t have a brown dial; I’d happily pull the trigger on it at that price. Good luck!

I definitely think its worth the price, its just that its a bit of a stretch financially. Maybe I'll buy the watch and sell the bracelet, I like to wear it on leather anyway.

If you don't I think a few of us would love to 😎.

Let me know if you pass 😉

If it's so hard to tell that the dial is brown, then it's not brown enough to justify a premium price IMO. That said, I think the overall condition justifies the asking price here, regardless of dial color.

I totally agree! It would be a nice extra though because it looks really good in my opinion, especially when its not too overwhelming.

Clearly brown dials command a premium and if it really is brown then it is probably well priced. But in my non-expert opinion the absence of a COA, and known service history the price seems a bit high. As @Dan S says if you have to look that closely then perhaps the dial is not really that brown. I bought a 145.022 from a well known forum member last year, the dial in certain lights certainly has hints of brown but I would describe it as black 😀
