Hi OF!

And Yeeeepppp - Sir yes Sir - another Speedy Auction!
😉

My Speedy Radar gave a heads up on this one, and I started looking at the few pictures of the watch,
and also reading the description (which was completely worthless)!

And then the headache started…..

The crystal was incredibly scratched, and trying to assess the quality of the dial was a NoGo!
The auction house were not very helpful with my questions, and could not/would not open the watch.
They had over 400 items on their auction, and watches were perhaps not their specialty.

So I had to use what I had…Yikes!
🥺

It had a step, with wide spaced SWISS MADE T’s
The lume markers were the short indices
The bezel had the DO90
The caseback had the single step and the Speedmaster engraving
The crown was the 24 tooth, with the old Omegalogo
The chronohand had the flat/square end

Guessing with the info above, it could/should be a 69…!!??

The quality/grading?

I had to value the dial and lume as a Poor, it could be a total mess (but of course hoping for the opposite!)
The bezel was wonderful, with the nice thinner fonts, Very Good plus
The case and caseback looked promising, and the brushing could be seen on the sides, Good plus (maybe VG?)
The hands could have been original, and the lume (on the chronohand) looked nice
Original crown and pushers

The bracelet looked like a 1039, and the endlinks were 516.

Value?
5500€ / 6300 $
Maybeeeee…..

I did make up another Masterplan…😬
I needed a nice DO90 for a 66 Speedy
A correct chronohand for a 78 Speedy
The bracelet could be used to one of my 69´s.

And then use this one as a beater with the replaced parts….

Auction day came, and the watch was up….…And I won the watch!
YAY…

Here is a side story:
I have a dear Forum Friend who I have an ongoing chat with regarding watches (also non watch related chats) that are up for auctions.
We try and assess the quality, and also guess about the final price.
it's really fun and entertaining, and there is always a Brewski on the bets we place.

But on this particular one, I do think that I was not crystal clear about my intentions,
and to be really honest, I was not "peaked" to go after this one,
so we later found out that I had placed the winning bid….over his bid….😢

My bad, and I did feel a bit sad about it, once again - sorry Mate!
But lesson learned, and we will never do this again to each other!

The watch went directly to Simon Freese, and he immediately started working with the watch.
He knew that I was going to visit him in a few weeks, and it would be nice if I could bring this one with me.

He was so enthusiastic regarding the condition of the watch that he did a few posts on his Instagram account,
and he received lots and lots of ”likes” and comments.
He also sent me pictures, so I finally could se the watch (before his work),
and it was Stunning!!

The inside of the case back showed 145.022-69, and the serial nr was 2960xxxx!
BINGO!

The final result was very very pleasing - So a Very Happy Swede in London!!

I will split up the pictures, so it should be a bit more easy to understand the journey I had with this Bad Boy!

Enjoy, and please do comment??

Nice gem of a dial underneath the original crystal.

Interesting installation orientation of that endlink on the 6:00 side, in the auction photos.... 🤪

Wow… this one… I’m actually jealous. That’s a decent price too. Clean up that crystal and it’s gonna look amaaazing! And the bezel is in much better shape than I thought from the description.
Nice find!

I spotted that watch. If I had the inclination and the contacts (Simon seems to get very mixed reviews on here, and it seems like if you’re a regular customer you may get a quicker turnaround?) then I’d have bid on it myself. Glad to see it went to somebody on here who knows what to do with it. Enjoy, it looks fantastic!

Thanks Guys for all the encouraging and nice comments!
❤️❤️❤️

As I wrote in the title, it was a bit of a gamble with the dial,
and I'm really happy with the outcome!!

I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce my new colleague who will help me with my SpeedyHunt.
😜😁
Have a lovely Speedy T!!
