Hey guys,

a nice and rare 105.002 -62 is currently for auction at Ebay at a price at 4.650$

https://www.ebay.com/itm/365924618811

What makes me wonder is the serial number. The offered watch has the serial 20.525.367. What puzzles me is, that my 105.003-63 has an earlier Serial with 20.522.160 .

Is the 105.002-62 movement in the correct range? Is a transition in the movements during this "year" with this huge gap possible?

Would love to hear your opinions.

Nico

Lovely!
If I was in the US I’d definitely be watching that one closely! 😁

What is going on with writing above serial number. Haven’t seen that before and looks sloppy but other than that watch looks good to me.

Not sure what that is either - maybe an importers engraving? That movement is squeaky clean.

Crazy money

I sold my Alpha hands for only $3k more (although it was probably too cheap).

Still, $16.7k seems steep.

I wonder if someone is actually paying that. It doesn't seem to make sense based on existing valuations.

The barn find effect can be strong…
Or maybe it’s someone outside of the USA with a currency strong compared to the usd right now?

Guilty... I was one of the people bidding this one up north of 14,5k. Didn't win, unfortunately. It's a steep price, but we're looking at a very, very good condition 105.002 here, perhaps even excellent. Pretty much flawless DON, nice dial, good case. Original down to the nipple-less chrono counter hand. Add to that a nice flat link with no. 6s and a period correct Speedmaster booklet as a bonus and you've got a very nice package worth a pretty penny.

I believe and have recently seen multiple examples of very good quality Speedmasters fetching really good prices. I am guessing it's down to people like myself who can justify spending more on excellent examples to 'upgrade' collections, knowing that finding a better one will be hard.

That is also a contributing factor, I guess.

You don’t often see them in that condition any more and it’ll look even better in the flesh. Fair price I’d say.

Nice one! Congrats!
Did you ask what the engraving on the caseback means?

Interesting. I didn't find it nearly that appealing, but I guess there is the personal factor. My guess is that the authentication and discussion on this thread drove up the price with less knowledgable silent visitors bidding it up.

bad lighting?

The latter. Daylight pictures showed a nice, slightly off-black dial. Calling it tropical would have been a stretch.

I'd be willing to stretch on this watch because of condition and the seller is in the US. I think it's a pretty fair price for a heck of a watch.
