Omega Seamaster Quartz caseback help

·I don’t know whether this is the right caseback or not (and, of course, if it isn't then the reference will also be wrong), but I can say that my Quartz is a similar case design (and uses cal 1342) and also has a SS caseback. Mine is 196.0116 from 1977:

·Thanks, do you happen to know that diameter your caseback is? Also is the seal quite thick?

·Sorry for the delay. I don’t have the proper tool, but just with a ruler it looks like my caseback is 32mm diameter. The photos I have above are the only ones of the inside, so I can’t answer the question about seal. All I can say is that the caseback snaps on just fine. I’m afraid I am on the “enthusiast” side rather than the technical one!

·This case uses a red gasket with the correct inside diameter to fit the flange on the case back, and the correct outside diameter to snugly fit the inside diameter of the case. The red gasket is fitted onto the case back first, then the case back and gasket pressed onto the case. The red gasket performs a double function. It seals the case, but also holds the case back on. And yes, the gasket is thick.

Great, I was hoping that would be the case. It’s easier than finding another case back!
I don’t suppose you know the best place to get one from do you? Before I start trawling the internet

·The fit on these red gaskets is critical. I suppose there might be an Omega part number for that gasket. That I don’t know. Since Omega seems to no longer be selling parts to watch material suppliers, unless you know a sympathetic watchmaker who has an Omega account, you might have difficulty obtaining the Omega part. The result of all this is that someone with a full generic assortment of these red gaskets may have to trial fit a few to find one that fits both the case, and the back. You’re likely better having a watchmaker do this for you.
