Omega Seamaster - help with identification and concern/issue spotting

Hello everyone. I’m considering purchasing this watch. Seller is located in Japan. I just had a few concerns I was hoping could be clarified for me.

1. Authenticity - does this appear to be a genuine seamaster?
2. Model - I do not have a reference number and have tried everything to find one for this watch.
3 Caseback - I understand that the seahorse was not introduced on the caseback until the 1960s. I’m concerned about the seemingly blank caseback stating ‘WATERPROOF’. Any insights on this?
4. If genuine, does the dial appear to be original? Any obvious reasons to stay away from this particular watch.

Lastly, any thoughts on a fair price assuming everything with it looks good?

The seller has a good rating, and appears to exclusively sell vintage watches. Claims it is mint and that everything is original. I appreciate any help that is provided with my inquiry’s. Thank you!

I think it's an early 1970s Geneve with a horribly repainted dial. There is a thread with recommended watches on eBay and also watches for sale in the forum classified listings.

1010 movement makes it '72 to '84. According to this: https://www.emmywatch.com/db/movement/omega--1010/

The inside of the case back usually has the reference number on it.

I found a couple of references all that seem to be about right, and have that movement:
166.024
166.0204
166.0263

None sell for more than a couple hundred dollars (maybe 400?) even in fantastic shape. Based on the movement, it is well past the "should have the Hippocampus" time as far as I can tell, so entirely possible it is a replacement case back.

@DanS Seems sure that it is a redial, and he's better than I am. I'm not AS sure as he is as it could just as likely be a low-quality watch of the time (though I see some suspicious things), or just bad photos.

In general, it is up to you to see if it is worth the effort to validate it, when it is at most a $500 watch if it were flawless. Given the case back, and that it looks like it very much needs a service/cleaning (~$300-$500 minimum), even WITH a perfect/genuine dial I'm not sure this is worth very much.

What is he asking?

Asking was $500 USD. I will stay away from this one. Thank you very much for the information, it is greatly appreciated!

To me it looks like the paint is not only on the side of the markers, but even spilling over on top of the markers. Terrible printing, incorrect hands. Omega clasp on an aftermarket bracelet. Total garbage.

As @ErichKeane noted, even a good example from this era is barely worth buying. More studying is probably in order before you think about making a purchase.

Sounds like the right choice. A bit of scum in the movement is visible in that photo, and none of the references I found seem to be trading at $500. At $150 I would personally perhaps grab it to mess around with, but at $500 it is overpriced even if this was a gem.

I see that too! But it also looks like it might be a 'stampled' indices dial, which I know where the cheapest-of-the-cheap. Entirely possible it was repainted, but I'd be equally as unsurprised if this was just a mid-quartz-crisis made-as-cheap-as-possible watch.

For what it’s worth the caseback is correct. These aren’t Seamasters so didn’t have the hippocampus
