Hello. This in an amazing Forum.

I have just purchased my first Omega on ebay and would greatly appreciate some advice on the watch.

The crown appears to be missing the Omega logo capping. Or maybe its the wrong crown? Also, would anyone know if the case is gold plated/filled or solid?

I have used a loupe to check the lugs and between the lugs and there are no hall marks or any other markings at all.

The ebay seller shifts all sorts of goods (115,000 feedback!) and they were unable to supply any provenance.

The watch keeps good enough time and I know of a great service centre. I live in the United Kingdom and I assume it's a UK market Omega. Regards, Simon

It’s the wrong crown. I believe these are generally gold filled but I suspect this one may actually be solid gold due to the double bevel on the back of the case.
Can you take the strap off and check for any stamp between the lugs?

Double check marked area for a hallmark.
This place is not clearly visible on attached photo.

Does it have 14K gold or 14k gold-filled written between the lugs on either side by any chance? That’s the case with a lot of US ones too.

Thank you both for responding. I have a jewellers loupe and can confirm that there is no tiny hall mark an the lugs nor are there any letters between the lugs. Nothing at all. Thanks for the link SerP - yes that watch is identical bar the fine horizontal and vertical lines on the face and the two tiny hall marks. Mine is completely unmarked. I do have a respected service centre near Saint Albans Hertfordshire where I can send it for the crown to be replaced and they'll identify the movement, serial number and case material.

I can probably save myself £350 by replacing the crown myself (i am a mechanical engineer). Am I correct in thinking the watch has a pull out (male/ female) crown?

And if so, would you know what the correct crown is?

Hello colleague. )
You are right about split winding stem - otherwise it impossible to remove mechanism from monocoque case.
Try to pull-out crown with female part of the stem.

Just measure the crown dimensions and find similat crown with logo..
If you need the crown which exactly fits to your wristwatch - need to remove mechanism and find numbers on inner part of the case (model's Ref.). In the same time you'll find-out if the case is solid gold or gold-plated.

Yes, to remove the movement from the case, you will need to turn the dial counter-clockwise (if I remember correctly).

You need to turn the movement retaining ring counterclockwise.

Just FYI to OP, that box doesn’t usually belong to that watch and is arguable more valuable.
