Hi! I just bought this of eBay for 300 pounds. I’m a bit unsure about the dial, could you guys please share your thought?
Looks good from here. A similar one here: https://omegaforums.net/threads/tho...ometre-calibre-352rg-case-ref-2520-2577.6879/
Thanks! Any other thoughts you would like to share? I haven’t seen many Seamasters with Arabic numerals on 2468, so that made me think twice, unfortunately after buying it.
That O in Omega and S in Seamaster would keep me wondering. I am a complete nOOb, but I have my doubts. Some of the other lettering looks suspicious to me also. For your sake, I hope the pro's tell you I am a crackpot. McK
It is a very nice watch, with about 35mm and a very pretty two-tone dial. Only the gold cap is worn over the lugs, but this is not very visible. Good catch!. If you look at the second watch in the thread I referenced, you'll see the fonts are very similar. Even the minute tick marks not being evenly spaced around the golden minute tick marks. Maybe just old dials with flaws!
Love ur input! Does the case back and the crown correspond with the rest of the watch? Any comments on the movement?
It seems they do correspond. It should be a bumper movement 351. Check the number. The serial (12 million) dates it from around 1950. https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-seamaster-omega-ck-2577/
Nice watch, but the gold cap is too worn over the lugs and bezel. The dial is repainted. Seamaster font type is wrong.
The S in seamaster...yes, may be repainted....Can you show closer pics of the dial so we can better see the fonts?. Something like this:
The resolution is not enough. However, if you look here, this seems to be a known Seamaster variation: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f20/why-so-many-different-1950s-seamaster-dial-fonts-626758.html Or here: https://omegaforums.net/threads/50s-60s-seamaster-advice.57675/ The Seamaster could be OK. The Omega Automatic should be done with serif fonts, and from your pics this cannot be seen.
I see. Sorry, as I haven’t recieved the watch yet, I can’t really post high res photos. All considered, would you guys say it’s a good watch for £300?
Dial is completely original, but has some aging spots. If the case is as worn out as in the pictures then it's just a so so deal.
All of this makes me second guess the purchase, I’ll try to get the dealer to cancel. I will let you know about the process. Thanks guys.
IMO GBP300 is not bad to a buyer! I would say it is NOT overpaid. Overall the watch is ok, case, dial and movement look nice. Once you have the crystal replaced, it will look much better.
It's not exactly a bad deal, but not a great deal either, especially since the gold at the lugs bottoms has all worn out (or corroded through). What's more important though is you should have asked questions first before buying. It's not fair to the seller if the watch wasn't misrepresented.
I don't think you should have any complaints. It's a nice watch for the money and the seller's description was spot on. A really good example would cost double the price.
