Hello everyone,

I just bought a Omega Seamaster 300, It has a 550 movement inside of it and I am unsure if this is all original or not. Any help on if this watch is been tampered with or what is original or not would be very helpful.

Thanks!

Could you take a clear straight shot of the front of the watch please?
I think the dial is fake.

The writing on automatic looks very off and the hands appear to have an orange tint I do not see in the indexes.

"Automatic" is not the only problem with that dial....

A better first post would have been "I am thinking of buying the following...." "This is my assessment of the watch.... What do you think" Good luck moving forwards with this one.

First of all, the case, movement, bezel and bracelet are original. This makes it more likely that the dial is also genuine, although based on your photos the dial does look suspect.

However, although I share some of the concerns above, I’d like to see a clear, well lit, focussed photo as I think this may show the dial to be ok.
The hands are either repros or have been relumed imo.

I'm afraid that even with an appropriate picture, the shape and font of the (at least) 6-9 markers seem wrong.

Completely agree they seem wrong on that photo, thickness, gaps etc but to my eye the overall proportions seem correct.
Same with the Omega logo and various fonts etc.

A better picture may well confirm the dial is bogus but I think there’s a chance it’s ok.

Guys, there are more variants of the 165.024 dials than meets the eye.
It's not fake IMO. It's a 'known' variant, typically seen in certain serial ranges etc. etc.
I won't go to much into this for now, well because of the 📖

The 6 and 9 definitely look off to me.

edit: and so does the 3 after looking at it more. I could be wrong though.

(narrow) gap at 6 ; serifs at 3 eg .
And font (thickness) of TswissT (this maybe because of the glass) 😲
sorry: fake / bad redial

I agree that the dial is fake. Having owned one of these in the past, the numbers and fonts are too thick and sloppy. The lume is also sloppy on both the dial and hands as well. If you decide to keep, this would be a good candidate for a service dial/hands.

But the bezel does look real. Depending on how much you paid, that could justify buying.

Would you suggest a new dial and hands from Omega, they would be white in color and not match the bezel, or would you send it out for a better refinish?

Thanks

I would give back/return the watch. All subsequent decisions will end in disaster.
You will always look at a kind of Frankenstein-Dial.

Repainting that dial/hands would be throwing good money after bad. If you choose not to return it and decide to keep, then either keep as is or replace with the new service dial hands. If you try to source old ones, you are likely to just buy fakes again. If you want the bezel to match, you can also buy a service bezel.

This isn't a popular option on the forum, but it is an option, and better than having a fake dial/hands.

Before anyone is too hasty, I think we should hear more from @kox, who definitely knows his 300 stuff. I also think the dial looks suspect, but I would certainly defer to the experts. I wonder if he feels the same after seeing these new pics…?
