Omega Seamaster 300 - thoughts?

Hi,

Any thoughts from you guys on this vintage Omega Seamaster 300? The barely readable serial number looks to indicate it is a 1970 model. Dial looks correct, also no stubbies and date window cut angled inwards. Unsure whether movement is original.

Cheers,
JJ.

I read these kinds of threads for the education, happily. I am always perplexed when I see pictures of a vintage piece someone is selling that are not clear. None of the attached pictures here would be clear enough for me (a novice) to even consider purchasing the item. It is like this a lot.

If I were in the market for a vintage watch (or any watch for that matter) and the seller couldn't provide clear shots, I'd immediately ignore the watch.
The watch may be perfectly original, but I would take a pass for that reason alone. I've seen better pictures on a $250 listing for an SKX.

It clearly needs better shots but I’d want to see more! 😀

Movement is a 565, which is OK except for the US market. To my eye all else looks good, bezel niece and not cracked , dial ok with super-dirty hands. Crown not correct. Photos are so bad that can’t read the serial number on the movement or the back. I would also like to see the profile of the case.

I would never buy a 166.024 like this with such approximation images. And without an Extract, that movement could be from other watches like DeVilles, non-diver Seamaster (happened to me). At least check the date of the movement, should be post 1967. (Edit: I see you have seen the number, and you date it at 1970).

The moldy hands aren't appealing and the crown is no good, but if it's cheap, you might want to just grab it fast without asking too many questions. If the seller is asking real money, then you need to see better photos, and you would need to decide if you can tolerate the hands.

What was the hammered price?
The link is in Japanese, but if you check it out, you can see the price.
The winning bid price is JPY103,000.

Quite surprising, the hammering prices on this site don’t seem generally low

Well that was a bargain.
Not really. £700 for a fake dial, bezel and insert. Bad crown already been mentioned.
Movement is probably genuine but with so many fake parts onboard it would be very surprising if the mid-case itself turns out to be genuine Omega.

And that's £699 too much...

A bit harsh, that movement has got to be worth at least a Ton.
