I know what you mean. However, it was so dirty and the plexi so badly scratched, that I had take it all apart and clean it in order to assess it properly. I was most interested in the condition of the dial really. And then once it was apart, rightly or wrongly, I ended up cleaning it properly!!!

I'm pretty chilled. If I get it for a reasonable price then great. If I don't, but I help him get more for it, then that's fine too.
Would a jewelry store really sell a watch in this condition? In my city, they would not, even after the clean-up. It just wouldn't be something they would put into a display.

They would pass it off to a bulk buyer.

Don't know really? My guess is that it would go in the safe and be forgotten for a while. Just like the Milsub he found in there the other day!!

Sure, sounds good. Now you just need to be thoughtful and conservative about what you want to do with it, e.g. perhaps just a re-lume and movement service.

I couldn't help but pull the watch head apart again tonight. Then spent an hour going through 800, 1,000, 1,200 and finally 1,200 wet. Finished with Polywatch. Managed to get all the deep scratches out and finish on a nice sharp edge. Then just finished it with a micro bevel.

Can't believe how good a result I got and certainly no more need for a new plexi.

Some better pics:-

Offer them 2000 and see what they say. If they say no, you give it back to them. But I have a feeling they won’t.

As I explained earlier, it's now mine for 1,750. All good.

What are they doing with the milsub?

And good buy on the SM300! What did everyone decide about the movement?

Keeping hold of it. But I've got first dibs! I'd go as far as remortgaging my home to buy it!

Thanks! Well clearly the dial and perhaps the case are '67' ish onwards and the movement bridge isn't. I suppose that's all we can say.....

I assumed you were joking about the Milsub when you described it as a “full set”
You don’t get anything with a Milsub, strap and head only. Did you mean “full spec”?

'Full Spec' indeed. I'll see if I'm allowed to get some photos.

Smashing. Heavily faked watch unfortunately.

This is a parts watch. Serial is way to early for 165.024, CB casesback is late, Sd crown came also at very end of production... bezel off, hard to date the watch... would stay away, util you fell in love and desparete....
