I just picked one up and the lume will barely charge; seeing as how this one is 5 years old.. is this expected?

Thanks!

So I shined the face with the power of a small sun and it lit up.. unfortunately it dims very quickly. But thankfully it works.

Superluminova in general sucks. If you want bright longer-lasting lume, you need a Seiko diver with Lumibrite.

Put a Seiko monster next to a 2254 or any other sword hands SMP, look at them after 2 hours of darkness and then revisit that claim...

I've actually owned both a Monster and the Ti version of the 2254 with the 1120. The Monster is brighter at the start and lasts longer, and still glows faintly in the middle of the night. The Omega doesn't even come close. But the Monster is on the cheaper/entry-level side of the Seiko scale, similar to the SKX, so the lume is weaker than if it were a Marinemaster.

I鈥檝e owned both too, my findings were otherwise. Can鈥檛 comment on the MM since I haven鈥檛 owned one.

Here鈥檚 about a minute under flashlight.
Ah the SM300 MC. Yes the lume is pretty poor on those, certainly a lot less vivid than on the watches we were discussing above.
