Hi, I am looking for some advice. I have a watch from my father an Omega Seamaster, 300, 501 CK-2913-8. We are looking to sell. We thought the watch wasn't worth much intially a few hundred maybe, but since we have put word out that its for sale, we are now at offers around £6000.
I am worried to let it go for that as I see that it could be worth more, although the fantastic, it is original. It was bought by my father in Japan in 1960. He hasn't worn it for the last 30-40 years, but wore it avidly in his youth and time as a sailor. here are some pics of the watch. The serial number starts 164 - the Omega archives are missing unfortunately so are no longer available.

The watch is working fine. The bezel is stuck and most of the paint has come off. The strap is the original stainless 7912 but some of the links are loose.

What do you really think this watch is worth - honestly.

Evidently, you have done some research yourself

What you have uncovered, already, seems not unrealistic

List the watch on Ebay ( with your pictures ), .....Write the same description of provennance, as you have here, ....include any photographs of your
Father wearing the watch .......& let the Market decide the value of your inheritance

Like Speedmasters, these early Seamaster 300's have an army of people looking for them. It is not the type of watch that is going to sell cheaply on eBay as no one noticed the listing.

I'd also advocate plenty of good macro pics in good/natural light, and a description including everything you know as well as the history.

A 0.99 no reserve auction and you'll get a good, fair price. Collectors love these one owner, barn find watches.

Importantly, don't clean, polish or fix anything. The years of grime that have built up are like a seal guaranteeing no dealer has prepared it for sale and it's fresh to the market.

if you thought it was worth a few hundred and £6000 seems a fair offer. Sometimes you first offer always the best 😀

yes I am going to sell, I have a couple of meeting lined up next week. It's my father watch, he is still alive. He can't be bothered with it anymore. my brother isn't interested, and its sat in a drawer.

However , 2913-8 with incorrect Broad Arrow hands or Cal. 501 16m serial pointing towards an earlier 2913 model with incorrect later Caseback fitted ?

Watch was bought in 1960 new in Osaka Japan. Serviced a few times, that's it.

Not sure where that would be but this is what I see......

Number 6 in the top corner of the strap where it joins the actual watch, and the others as per the photo

Appears to be 4 64 which is 4 quarter of 1964 production. If that is correct, Indicates a (slightly) later bracelet than the original.

My father says nothing was changed on the watch, he wore it solidly in the 60's from 1960 hence the heavy wear on bezel etc.

Hi

I'd suggest that we can see the remains of ' 20 ' on the insert....so a ' count down '.....and the 4/64 7912/6 BCT is not in keeping with the 16m serial.

Perhaps early wear ' n ' tear to the Watch took it's toll and some parts were replaced at Service ?....and if I was a Seller , I think a £100 invested in an Extract would be a good idea.

That said , I think you should get £6-7k GBP all day long for it.
