Hi Forum People!

Sunday afternoon here in Sweden, and its raining outside…

So why not share a recent watch that I manage to win on an auction?

It is an Omega Seamaster 2938-2, the serial nr 15.57 million puts this watch around 1956.
The movement should be a caliber 284?
I didn't have time to ask for more pictures, so no movement pictures or from the inside of the caseback.

The black dial has some issues with the paint starting to peal/fade away,
but I do find the dial combined with the hoursmarkers a bit unusual and charming!
The lumeplots are still there.
I am not sure about the second hand, the color doesn't really match the hour and minute hands.
The crown is a servicecrown..

The bezel, case and caseback looks nice, with nice and sharp edges,
there are of course scratches, but no major damages or dings,
some nibbles on the underside of one lugg.

But the watch is in need for a serious cleaning, and the movement would need a service.

So my questions are:
Do you find the condition of the dial bothering, and might it continue to change?
The second hand - original or exchanged?
The crown - is it hard to find a correct one?

And if you happen to have info or pictures on this reference (maybe with a black dial…),
please do share?

I will post more pictures once the watch has arrived!

Cheers!

Pretty bad water damage through the crown, unfortunately. Given the state of the dial, I wouldn't worry too much about the crown or sweep hand.

I do like the dial. Hard to tell from the photo the extent of the damage, but from what I can see, I'd wear it.

The crown should be a (ST)45003 according to this list. It's used in a bunch of references and you should be able to find it in the $50-60 range. I remember looking for that exact one months ago for a 2791 reference.

Thanks mate!
The dial is not so usual...

And nice to know that the crown could be sourced, and thanks for the ref nr!

Yepp...could be water/moisture that did that...!

Waiting for pictures of the movement, and then take it from there!

Hi!
Choose 069ST45004 as it looks like the one which is on the watch now. My 2937' s and 2938's have this type crown with older logo.

Thanks!

I actually found an old post that you did regarding these watches (before you answered me!)

I like it and after a deep clean of the case I would make it a daily wearer! Once you get it, first thing I would open it and check the extent of the water damage, saving as much as you can..

Thanks... I do think that the condition of the movement will be the "dealbreaker"...👎

Movement looks pretty clean.
Heres its uncle 2639 with cal 266 from 1953
Very similar movements descended from cal 30, similar gilt dials, and shot of (I think) original worn crown

Really happy with the movement!

And your 2639 has a lovely vintage vibe!
