Omega Seamaster 2254.50 Review: Is It the Best Tool-Watch Seamaster?

....Too tooly.... I think Nile Rodgers once asked David Bowie if he had made a song 'too funky' - David replied no darling..is there such a thing?

300m professional dive watch / with helium release. Best legability of any watch I have (IMHO) which has amazing asthetics combined with robust top class engineering performance. A very hard combination to achieve.
.
I consider these 2254s to be Omega's "Submariners" at about 1/3 the cost and of equal quality, looks and versatility. Just my 2Cs.

I woke up and put on my 2254.50 that I hadn't worn much this summer and up popped this thread. It is definitely a tool watch, but like most people, I don't tend to use it as such. IMHO this is the best all round Seamaster design from the last 20 years and would be my only watch if I had to reduce my collection to one.

I love mine, I want to pick up a 36mm too
I've had a 36mmm quartz version (2262.50) and I find the size to my tastes. Legibility is still stellar and the low profile makes it very comfortable to wear. The smaller size gives it a vintage vibe without the worries. Hopefully you'll get a chance to try one on to see if you feel the same way. Good Luck on your hunt!

This discussion of the 2254.50 - a gorgeous watch - is remiss without dropping in the GMT version, the 2534.50. Same dial and case, 1128 GMT movement instead of the 1120, different bezel. Equally versatile and without the helium escape valve wort. It's a watch I'll never part with.

This is the gmt omega should be working on right now, same size, a new movement and a redesigned bezel.
Nice watch btw 👍

I agree. The form factor is perfection, IMO, and a new movement without the caliber 1128 recurring hour wheel issue.

Not quite the same case. The GMT is about a mm thicker due to the addition of the GMT Gubbins. It still sits nicely on the wrist but you do lose some of the early SMP thinness when you go GMT (as well as the not universally loved He repressurisation* valve) so it is not quite a free lunch.

for info about He repressurisation* read this, it can help with buoyancy control:

Thanks! I hadn't delved into the stats on the cases and did not know this. Love to learn something new every day!

When I finally managed to found one but was unsure whether I should pull the trigger or not (mainly because I couldn't try it nor see it since the seller was in a different country), I received really good advice on this forum.
So, thanks OF for that one! 😀

Sometimes you see a NATO and you think to yourself “what could that color combination possibly ever go with?” And then you see that NATO on that watch and think “oh, that NATO was born to go with that watch.” Very, very, very nice combo.

Thanks a lot, I too find that they go along pretty well!

You're surrounded by other sickos on this forum that suffer from the same affliction, haha. Myself included.

Is the 2254 considered a tool diver? Looking for a less dressy diver than the new SMP 300…also really do not like SMP bracelet and skeleton hands or how blingy it is. Would like to see pics of 2254.50 and thoughts on buying one 10+ years used as my sole do it all watch?

many thanks
Though a late reply, if you haven’t yet, GO for it. There’s much to like and enjoy. So far and IMHO it’s with the best Omega divers functionality pieces and it’s a looker if you prefer no-nonsense clean and dependable tool watches. I’m in love with mine

One advice only, if not to late… 😀. Assuming you are interested in the model with the original stainless steel bracelet (1610/930) find one offered with extra bracelet links, as the otherwise superb original clasp doesn’t provide any built in micro adjustment.

Get one if you can.

Definitely a tool, definitely functional. Good looks, good proportions. It does feel like Omega's Submariner to me but it's not.
