Hi everyone,

I currently have my eye on an Omega Seamaster 166.010 with BOR bracelet going for $1200 in what looks like a great condition. I’m curious to hear your opinions regarding the price and originality of the watch, such as dial, crown and crystal.

Thanks in advance!

Chronometer version or not? Serviced? Photos would be helpful.

Movement is the caliber 565, and was serviced recently in June 2022.

I have been looking at those a ton lately. It is on the pricy side, but the condition is very good and if the service was done correctly, then it is probably worth the extra cost. Hard to tell about the quality of the service though, unless they can provide a receipt and you can research the person who did it. Also note that it looks like there is only one extra link on that bracelet (unless there are more hidden behind the clasp). If your wrist is over 7", it will be too small for you.

Looks good. The crown is incorrect which is a negative as the originals have quite a distinct look.

I’d also want proof of the recent service.

Even then $1200 isn’t cheap for one of these but if properly serviced and with bracelet it’s not bad. You could certainly get one cheaper but it would take time and effort.

Looks ok to me. If the service is complete and documented from a reputable watchmaker, then I don't think the price is bad.

I concur, that watch is in really nice condition. Many of these don't have the original crown, so that is a slight negative, but they haven't been made for years. I liked mine so much I got one of each, stainless and gold-cap.

What's that at the 2:00 position in the close-up? Is it peeling clear coat or just something on the crystal? Some of the other pictures don't show it but bear in mind some dealers are experts at lighting and angle of the shot to diminish or make flaws disappear.

If you plan to keep it and wear it, you've found a great looking reference in very good condition with a recent service. You could do a lot worse for 1200.

Yes, as noted be sure the bracelet is long enough. Although links are available, finding them and having them installed could easily cost $100 or more.

How is the crown incorrect? Is it that it’s slightly convex on both ends, rather than just the outside face?

Correct crown for this reference (no date version 165010).

Yeah, I have the date with the wrong crown and the no-date with the right one.

For my fellow 166.010 owners, I have noticed that 2mm thick spring bars seem to make the end-links fit tighter to the case than 1.8mm bars. Who knew that 0.2mm would make a difference?

I think the case has been refinished.

You see many 165.010 & 166.010 with the slimmer scalloped crown but very few if any 168.024’s
It makes me wonder if they originally came with two different crown styles.

This was what I was wondering. The thicker crown is the only one I’ve ever seen on the 168.024 variety. The vast majority of 166.010s that I see in the wild have a thick crown, including ones with no watchmaker’s markings or other indications of service. It’s hard to imagine they’ve all been replaced. Then again, the only watch I’ve owned with the slimmer scalloped crown also has a rusted stem.

Just recently discovered this myself. It makes a big difference.
