Omega Seamaster 14K 'Waffle-Crosshair Dial' Cal. 354 - Needing guidance. Is it a redial?

Hi all,

I've been referred here by the good folks at WUS. I am eyeing up this 14K Seamaster my good friend owns and is keen to move. He's looking for $2.5-3k USD for it. I'm aiming to buy it at $2.5KUSD as I think it'll probably need a service, which I'd anticipate to cost around $5-600USD. I have access to a vintage watch specialist who will look over this piece for me.

Serial number is 14,XXX,XXX, which dates this to 1954 I believe.

But... I am curios to hear others' thoughts on this piece. A few things have me pause before pulling the trigger.
1. Marks (dirt/grime??) between 9-10 & 10 & 11 o'clock, centre dial and the odd spec here and there.
2. Is the Cal. 354 one to embrace or avoid?

Essentially, wondering if this is a gooer or a pass.

As I noted on WUS, I'm concerned about some of the fonts ... and the overall look of the dial, TBH. But the real experts will be along presently.

Nothing wrong with a cal 354.

I'd be more worried about the price tbh. 2.5k$? There's a (more valuable) small second jumbo bumper available here that's actually working and ca. 750$ less.

This watch is working -- but it's likely due a service, that's all

Are you able to provide me with a link to this? Thank you!

Search for jumbo in the private sale section.

Ok, that's good - still... even if the dial didn't have stains (which it does) the price sounds steep to me, something like 750-1000$ over market.

There you go. From the same period, different watch though. Both small second dials and jumbo references usually cause a significant premium. Deduct a bit for the honeycomb dial which the 2657 doesnt have, of course. But I know which one I'd fancy.

In the end, I've decided to pass on it -- not because it isn't a nice watch, but I don't think it was 'for me'. I had the opportunity to try it on for half a day and I didn't connect with it. Thank you all for all of your helpful comments though!
