Looking straight down at the dial, it still can be tough to tell which is the 36 and 39. This is the angle that, to me, really shows the size difference.

Just purchased a 2504.52. They definitely are rarer than the 39. As to the 41, I'd have to agree with others here and say it's even rarer than the 36, as I have never seen one for sale. The 36's pop up from time to time, but they are getting pricey. I think the OP's estimate of $2500-3000 is a good estimate for the 39mm. The 36's seem to be in the $3300-3500 area from what I've seen. I currently own both the 36 and 39 versions. Bought the 39mm a couple months ago, loved the design and comfort of the watch, but couldn't help but feel like it was a little big at times on my 6.7 inch wrist. So reluctantly I started my search for a 36mm. I was prepared to wait for a while, but found one quicker than expected, and it arrived Friday. The watch fits exactly how I'd hoped. sits squarely on the wrist, the large dial gives it a good wrist presence while still being subtle. Worth the premium price I paid, because there's no longer any doubt in my mind that I have the right size. Here's a few pics for reference. And let me know if anyone's interested in the 39mm as it needs a new home.

36mm

Had I not only just recently picked up my 39mm Explorer, you'd have a PM in your inbox right now.

Based upon my more-than-casual interest in this watch over the past two years, I'd say all sizes are rare, but concur with the majority of posters that the order, from least rare to rarest, is 39mm - 36mm - 41mm.

39mm is the ideal size for me and I was seriously looking at it as a lower-cost alternative to my Exlorer grail.

Great watches all, and IMO all three are future classics/collectibles.

Congrats on your Grail. I also was obsessed with the 214270 mark2 when it first came out last year, but I've been gravitating towards smaller watches as of late. And the 2504.52 fits the bill in every sense.

That's the thing that some people don't always get right away as it pertains to collecting... ultimately, what watch you should buy comes down to what watch looks best on your wrist. There is no perfect watch for all people.

The 36mm variant looks amazing on your wrist. Cheers to you for working through what works for you and then going out and getting it.

You'll obviously have no trouble finding a buyer for the 39mm RM, which, seriously, is a fantastic watch. Yours looks to be in very nice condition as well.

Yes you are quite right. Ultimately it's how it feels and looks on the wrist. Not even the same watch will wear the same way on two people that claim to have the same wrist size.

The end-link ref is 898, the reference inside the bracelet clasp is 1574 (for the 39mm at least.

So 1574/898 is the full reference I believe 😀

Does this mean I can now post a gratuitous pic of mine? Please??

Great to see the comparison pictures. I've got the same sized wrists and have comfortably convinced myself that 39mm is the right size for me.

I wonder if I keep telling myself that because I didn't have the patience to wait for a 36mm to come along.

Very interesting and I would agree that as all dial, it wears slightly larger than one might expect. That said, I just picked up a 39 and absolutely love it. The seller, Btreichel87 (who I highly recommend) went through the 36 v 39 debate I believe and I can easily see why. All subjective to personal taste

Btreichel87 and SconnieBt are one in the same! Haha. Different forum, different name. But glad you're enjoying your 39mm watchingpasadena, and thanks for the kind words. [emoji106]

Reviving this old post on a great watch. I had shortly the 39mm version but flipped it to pursue something else. I'm evaluating if this time should go again for a 39mm (below the photo of mine):

or go with a 36 (below some picture of a 36 mm AT on my 7 inch round wrist:

Suggestions? 🙄

Biased 36mm owner here.... But 36 all the way. This watch is deciding because it's all dial, so the 36 where's bigger than a 36 and same with the 39. It depends on the look you are going for, but from your pictures, the 36 looks much more comfortable on your wrist. The 39 looks a little too bold on the wrist tome, but again it's all about what you prefer.

I prefer my larger watches (39-40mm for me) to have a decent sized bezel, which keeps the dial size down. To my eyes, the dial size is what makes a watch look big or small. I had written off larger watches all together... Sold all my 40 and 42mm watches. Then realized why those watches didn't work, they were all dial. Picked up an Explorer 2 and although it's a 40mm case, the dial size is smaller than my 36mm Railmaster. Both wear very comfortable on my 6.5" wrist.

Picked another 39 MM RM, happy to have this great piece on rotation again:

Still looking for a 36 mm to compare fit, imagine will fit about the same as my former 2504.80 below:

but perhaps look bigger because of dial color / layout?
