Since retiring from diving my father passed down his Omega Ploprof to me, over the last couple of years it’s begun to stop and changing the time and date has all but, become impossible because the crown just spins, the watch, dates from the late 60s early 70s, I’d Like to get it repaired and re-sealed, watch repairers that I’ve spoken to have said that they can do it, but won’t guarantee the watch will be water proof therefore can anybody recommend somebody to do this work? I have emailed Omega direct a couple of times but have had no response.

    Hi, where are you located?

I sent mine from San Diego CA to Australia for repair. Look up Lewis Watch Co or message @photo500 He serviced mine and several other members.

    Pics of your dad's watch?

    Here is mine.

Yes, where are you? Seems like it shouldn't be an impossible task to find an Omega authorized watchmaker, which is desirable because they'll have a part account with Omega.

Posting a photo of your watch is a friendly gesture when asking for free advice here :)

What I’d be looking for is an expert vintage watchmaker who will bring it back to (basic) functionality while preserving all the patina and history it has accumulated in years of use with your father and now you. You’ll get some good suggestions here I know, as @Taddyangle has already started the ball rolling.

Value is in original dial and hands. They will replace those.

Typically one of the worst things you can do with a vintage watch is send it back to the manufacturer for service.

Unless you want to keep and wear the watch. Then it's the smart thing to do. It's living driving around in a rusted up classic car instead of restoring it. It's still you dad's watch. When my dad passed I inherited his Rolex and had it completely overhauled by an RSC. It cost a lot, but now it's good as new, keeps great time, is completely waterproof and I can wear it like a normal watch, as it should be. And every time I check the time I see my dad's watch.

Disagree massively with this. If he wants to be able to dive with the PloProf and see the lume work after servicing it might be the right thing to do, otherwise no. A competent watchmaker will be able to service it just as well as the Omega service center, but some of the functional aspects not concerning the time keeping may be affected.

Simon Freese (as recommended above) was service manager at STS for years and now runs his own business (near Southend in Essex). He does excellent work and I too would recommend sending the watch to him over anyone else, including STS.

Thanks to everybody that’s responded to my post. I spoke to Swiss time services today, the guy was familiar with the Ploprof and quoted a great price and would guarantee the watch. So looking forward to getting it repaired soon.

I agree that minimal restoration is the way to go. One for value and two because all the wear and tear reflects your father's life. I have always liked Ploprofs and think they are undervalued. Shhh But, quite a chunk on my medium wrist. If I had one I would wear it and if it had been my dad's I would wear it proudly.
