Omega or Tissot -- Which one? Vintage Omega Watches Help

Two beautiful watches to choose from and seems like you ended choosing the Tissot which is certainly the clever option here as it's more timelessly classic and can never go out of style.

I would probably have gone with the Omega, but I've always had a thing for that era of Omega with the funky angular cases. Still I would have probably have voted for the Tissot here as the better bet for longevity.
Yes, for me, the Omega is great for its early 70s vibe -- bellbottoms, wide ties, flowery shirts, muttonchop sideburns, lava lamps, etc. But the basic Tissot design is still in use today. Even many digital watches offer an analog display that looks a lot like it. It just says "watch".

The Seastar model was launched to the market in 1954. This one dates to 1958, still mounted to its signed bracelet that also dates to 1958:

Ok as promised, here it is. All cleaned up and good to go. I blame you lol

Didn’t notice how similar it is to my seamaster Geneve.

Lovely. Mine is still at the watchmaker. The similarity doesn't surprise me. Tissot is Omega's entry level sister brand and no doubt they used the same dial and case manufacturers. The Omega likely would have a more sophisticated movement.

IIRC the contemporary Omega 1481 and Tissot 2481 (that is in my Seastar) are essentially the same movt.

Of course it is likely that the Omega is finished to a higher standard.

It was finding that the two marques shared the same movt that led me to look into Omegas.

I was surprised when these showed up in my late mother's things: My grandfather's Omega Geneve automatic ref. 166.0120 and Tissot Seastar manual wind ref. 42520, both from the early 70s. Both are in great cosmetic condition and still running (!) after 30+ years in storage, though both are badly in need of a service. I got rid of their nasty non-original metal bands and put leather straps on them. I know neither is of any real collectors' value. So the key question is: Which do you like better? I know my answer, but am curious about all of you.
Between Omega and Tissot I'd take Omega. Between THAT Omega and THAT Tissot, I'd take the Tissot

Yes, for both of these the case is completely different when you look at them as a whole. The tissot is a rounded back and front loaded the omega is not. The omega has a cal 601 and the tissot a cal 781.

Great to see the comparison and yes both part of SSIH.

Yes, I'll get them both serviced. I dislike wearing metal bracelets, and while these are basic leather straps, I agree they look good for now, and more exotic ones are easy to find.
