OMEGA Nato straps

They are a lot thicker than 'normal' natos, so they make the watch sit much higher on your wrist. I may use the Ti buckle off the one that came with my Apollo 11 45th, but the strap itself was next to useless for me.

Have to say, it looks pretty good Spy!

Thank you. It feels good on the wrist and looks good when I wear a suit too.

Since I did not read one negative feedback about it from the guys who have it, I think it's safe to say the quality is pretty good (above the "regular" straps). However, I don't recall reading any negative feedback about the "regular" straps either, so it may be pretty safe to say that also those ordinary nato straps are pretty ok in terms of quality.

The only negative feedback I can think of about ordinary Nato's is that over time the holes stretch, especially after being in water many times. The newest Nato/RAF straps I have bought recently are better at remaining in shape than others I have bought in the past.

As for the OMEGA Nato, I have worn it continuously, even in the shower. And it has stayed perfect. But it is still only less than a week old. So, I shall see if it still holds up after a couple months in my daily routine.

am I willing to pay around 1,000%-1,500% times more to get an incremental increase in quality of less than 100%? Or, better yet, should I go with a (slightly) better quality Omega nato strap or should I buy 10-15 different ordinary nato straps that are pretty decent and that I can wear in rotation for a whole month without getting bored?

So far, the OMEGA Nato is splendid. It is softer and maintains its shape after being in water. But as great as its quality is, it is not going to convince me to abandon the purchase of a $10 strap. The other straps I own are finer quality than other straps of the same value. However, I will buy another OMEGA Nato in time.

I wish the buckle on my OMEGA Nato had a screw to anchor it to the strap rather than a pin. There is a seller on eBay that sells JB straps with a fantastic buckle that uses a screw for easy changing.

Do you not have a spring-bar tool?

I do, the Bergeon 6767-F. But the screw-in buckle just matches the screw-in links and feels more high-end. Many will think it sounds childish, but the screw-in buckle appeals to me.

Any chance you could divulge the seller you refer to? I'm always on the hunt for quality strap purveyors.
And I agree with you that for some reason screw-ins seem more high-end, although the reality of that bias is unfounded. One thing that gives me trepidation is if one of those minuscule screws are lost....

Worth. Every. Penny. Well, they are heinously overpriced. But if you have the greenbacks, worth it.

I've said this point before, but the tactical nylon that you have and the leather NATO-style two-layer straps are definitely worth the price. They are amazingly comfortable, the material they use is considerably higher quality then the tactical nylon and leather (outside of Horween Shell Cordovan) found on other NATO-style straps, and due to the softer leather interior they keep the watch locked into place on your wrist, whereas depending on the weight of the watch head some other NATOs can slip around a bit. I believe the OP was referring to the traditional single-layer nylon straps, like pictured in his post.

Good point. I have the standard Omega NATO on order for my other Planet Ocean (8500) in grey and black. Will see how it stacks up.

That is the one I am considering for another time.

Is there no US online seller of these straps?

Tom

I wish. So far as I'm aware, they can only be ordered through an Omega Boutique. Unless you can find someone selling second hand.

I'd call your nearest Omega boutique to inquire. At least in my dealings with my two local ones they're very cordial and responsive when asking about or ordering pieces. Also, if you live out of a state they operate I don't think they can charge you sales tax, which should offset the shipping costs a bit.

I wish these weren't so expensive!

There are people wearing Casio's that want OMEGA's but think the same thing. If you want one, just buy one if only once.

Just can't bring myself to do it for a fabric strap (not crapping on anyone that did, I think it is gorgeous).
And I can't live by that maxim, otherwise I would have one of everything.

I understand. But go to a boutique and ask to look at one.

Oh god, didn't know they carried them at the boutiques. I want to go look now, but I fear my wallet will be a bit lighter upon exit...
