Hey all,
Im about to buy an omega speedmaster Mk40 (tritium), with a leather strap, for 2200 euros.

Therefore I’m looking around for nice straps and maybe a bracelet too - omega 156x.

I found a few MK40 (non-tritium) with this “rubber” strap (example please see photos) however I can’t find it to buy anywhere. Does anyone recognize that strap?

as well any recommendation where to buy (in Europe) an omega 156x bracelet? I heard that only the 1563 is still in production.

Last point, I think the MK40 with tritium looks nicer than the one without, however will it hold the value? I mean, as an iconic watch will the tritium version be more appealing in the future?? What’s your thoughts?!

Cheers

If best try directly at Omega. Omega had very few left a few months ago

That is an aftermarket Hirsch strap. Might be a Robbie or similar. The Harlequin or Flightmaster look Mk40 jumped in price when Hodinkee did their reissue but I wouldn’t personally call it iconic. I don’t think tritium vs SL makes much difference with these.

"Iconic" is a pretty strong word for what was previously amongst the least liked Speedmaster models. IMO a case of the Emperor's New Clothes in the market right now - when the Hodinkee glamour fades, people will start wondering why they paid a premium for these.

@Jr86 : this is the strap on the watch in your photos: https://www.hirschstraps.com/produc...-effect-performance-watch-strap-in-grey-black

Have a look at https://www.uncleseiko.com/collections/omega for ideas on which bracelets could look nice on it or try something left field like this rivetted bracelet I bought for my FOIS - it is really great value for the money.

I didn’t know you had a FOIS. it looks great on that rivet bracelet. Here is mine on the brush/polish Uncle Seiko Flat Link.

Both mine and the above should fit the Mk40/triple date, maybe with a little persuasion to adjust the end link.

Nice! I have actually ordered a few bracelets/end links on his site, looking forward to getting hit on the customs in a near future 🙁

The bracelet on the photo is absolutely amazing. $45 and great quality, miles better than the 1125 I had on it previously. It made the FOIS get about five times as much wrist time as before, so I decided to treat it to a service... It should be back home soon 😀

Im a bit in shock, i Had no idea about the hodinkee story.. I just read it through. I always liked this watch, but I never had money to buy it.. and as I saw for the past years increasing price, I thought with the new version and being discontinued would hold price.

if I understand, you believe that in few months/year it will fade away?? I was looking and all triple date ( non-MK40) are the same or more expensive than 2200 euros. Do you believe it’s a premium 2200 euros for the MK40? To close I would think that tritium would hold value better.. don’t really know what to do now..

And the price isn't bad either.
The cheaper one at Chrono24 with a steel bracelet and box and papers costs 3228 euros in Europe.

I too think that its current popularity will wane or at least fall back to where it was before, ie on a par with the all black Triple Date model. By the way, Triple Date = Mk40, they are one and the same. The Harlequin is just a dial variant not a separate model, well it has a different PIC but its the same model as the all black or blue or white dial from a naming POV. Some called the multi coloured one the Mk40 Schumacher since he was featured in an advert for it, but there is no other connection to him and he advertised about 20 Omega models so I don't find it all that helpful. The look is actually based on a series of watches from the early 1970s, the Flightmaster see below for an example:

I was looking to purchase this exact watch and I agree the earlier tritium dials are better and more collectible

yes..It spanned the move to luminova... so their are later luminova versions out there..
