Dirty dozen for me...
Cheers
Yesterday I went to a GTG were we talked about the Omega Dirty Dozen watch. Several people told me, that the watch itself was not part of WW2. It was ordered from the British military during WW2, but not delivered from Omega before after WW2.

Interesting......

Would like to add that even the 6B fat arrows are still nice! I won't be detracted from buying a nice 6B even if it weren't a thin arrow
I have this one i my collection - but I think it is from after WW2 - it´s from the 1950´s

Would you consider this military? It's not mine, but a friend brought it to a recent GTG.

in the "almost" category, we have the 30T2 SC PC Techron. Postwar, these were advertised as approved by the RCAF for pilot use. I think it was just a way of unloading the zillion watches that Omega had surplus once the shooting, and the buying, stopped at war's end. Its the same as the US Army's 30T2 based watches and, as non issued watches, not all that rare or expensive.Think of them as "army surplus".

another wrench in your works!

Reviving a dead thread!

I have just taken a chance on an Omega military watch for a very good price. I don’t have the watch in hand at the moment, and the photos were taken with a potato by the seller so I won’t bother with any other photos.

This is a British D.O.S issued example (setting this scratches hurt!). On the front, it has a white dial with full rail-track minutes and blued-steel hands.

From my basic understanding understanding, just like the 6B/159 watches were reissued to the RAF, this particular one was reissued to the Directorates of Overseas Surveys (as suggested by the D.O.S engraving on the back). That’s about as far as my knowledge goes with this one. Would you fine folk have any interesting info on these? I presume they went through the same process as the 6B/159s re replaced/redialed dial and hands?

all the best,
Chris

Front /dial pics are essential here. With Swiss made above the 6, its the 1956 re cased WW2 navigators omega. Yours is re issued in 1959. If no Swiss made above the 6, it is a re paint, which was normally done in black. Depends on the Fonts, if yours is a MoD dial or not. Kind regards. Achim

Hi Achim,

awesome info there! The only image I had to go off by, was horrible so I thought it might not be worth uploading. Anyway, here it is then! Though it’s blurry, I’m pretty sure someone with your knowledge base and trained eye, will be able to spot all those points you mentioned above, despite the out of focus-ness 🤪 but just going off the dial and my own knowledge, I can say I am 9% sure the dial is all good. Whether or not it’s a franken, I can’t say as I don’t specialise in military pieces.

Best,
Chris

Looks all good to me from my limited knowledge. I like the DOS engraving too, a bit different. Lovely quality case that, possibly made by Dennison many think.
I have never said this before....DIBS, if I may.

Very good 1942 original dial. Re cased by the MoD in 1956 onwards. If you can buy it, buy it. Kind regards. Achim

That's great to hear! I did buy the watch at a mere $100. A risk worth taking at that price in my opinion!

Thanks for your input! I do like the D.O.S engraving too. Something a little different to the RAF version. I'm contemplating whether or not I should do something about those wrench marks on the caseback. They're quite an eyesore.

You'll be the first to know, haha 😁

Just in case, somebody offers you a quick 100 % profit now: don't. Value if all ok, rather around $ 4000....

Agreed, nothing needed doing to the case back. $100 is crazy, someone really made an expensive mistake, shame really.

Thanks for the heads up. Yes I won’t be letting it go of it that easily 😎 I do know the value of these little things assuming that it is all original.

The RAF issued had been on my ‘want list’ for many years but because of the price, it had remained on that list. That dial and hand combination is just simply beautiful.

If this sale comes through, I also managed to bag a Jaeger LeCoultre Dirty Dozen. It retains the original dial (plus radium lume) and cathedral hands, not R.E.M.E replacements. It does sound too good to be true, but I’m remaining hopeful!

That’s true, they lose out money that could have been. The watch however, will go on to a new owner who will take care of it until it’s time to pass onto others. In many cases the watches may just get flipped. The watch will definitely be well looked after under my care. And if I do sell it, it’ll be going to someone in this forum; you, and I’m confident you’ll enjoy it and care for it just as much, if not more, as I do 😉😀😝
