Hi all,

A friend of mine has an Omega Medicus I'd like to run past some experienced members here. I am trying ascertain whether or not it is genuine. It was advertised as having a 'gilt' dial and sold as such. However, given its size, it is difficult to assess. At first glance, the watch appears 'wrong' with the abscence of lume filled numerals. However, on close inspection I seem to agree it does in fact have a 'gilt' dial. As I was limited by the loupe I was using, I decided to get a cheap digital microscope and assess it.

I've done my best, and I *think* it's legit, as I can see black paint above the white (metal??) filled numerals unerneath the paint. I did a comparison with another known (and slightly bigger) gilt dial in my collection - a Mulco. I think I can also see spots of rust on the gilt aspects of the Omega as I do with the Mulco.

In essence, if this is in fact a true 'gilt' dial, then I assume it must be genuine right? Who would go to the trouble of faking a gilt dial on such a watch? It is not particularly valuable.

What I know about the watch:
- Measures 30mm inclusive of crown
- Circa 1937 by movement number

I'm interested to hear your thoughts. Specificallty if you think this dial is genuine and/or if you have any idea how this dial was manufactured.

Sorry about the glare, but I am attempting to highlight changes in depth through my macros.
