It is actually a 26,5. I would tend to think the dial is original. But there may be an issue with the movement. The serial number of the movement dates it back to 1938, maybe 1939. It matches the serial number of the case. But the 26,5 T2, the first of the cal. 26.5 series to have shock protection, had only been issued in 1940. As a couple of year is not a big deal here, I would not take that into consideration if the balance bridge did not seem to have a different color of the rest of the movement. Maybe it is nothing important though...
ok thank you for this. so if the movement number matches the case, what does this suggest if you’re saying that these cases weren’t issued with these movements until 1940?

On second glance, looks like the entire balance assembly has been replaced. Possibly with one from a cal. 26.5T3?

I suppose it would affect the value, maybe not too much.

what is the difference in these balances? from what i can tell the 26.5 has the f-s indicator beneath the a-r, the t3 doesn’t have this

The main difference is the incablock shock protection. If you look back you'll see that I remarked on the serial number being very early for a shock-protected movement. @François Pépin and @gatorcpa are suggesting that the balance (including balance cock) is a replacement, and that the original balance would not have been shock-protected, and would have matched the color of the rest of the movement better. The serial number is on a different part of the movement and therefore matches the case.

I think their speculation is quite possible. Given that this is not a terribly collectible watch anyway, I don't think it's going to have a major impact on value. And the good news is that the watch has shock protection.

No, you're misunderstanding. Francois is saying that the case originally came with a cal 26.5, which is still there, except with a replacement balance from a later variant.

It's hard to see because of the small photo, but there is a small spring-like device over this jewel. That is an incabloc shock-protection device. It allows some play in the position of the jewel if the watch takes a hit.

One way to tell would be to know the exwact ref written under the balance. I can see the 26,5 on the pic, but is there something else after?
