Nope, leave it as is, at least on the SMPc. It’s a defining part of the watch.

Agree, it what makes the SMP standout.

I am actually not a fan of the HEV, and often dream my 2254 didnt have one.
Then i tried to imagine it without, and i must admit, it does feel like something is missing there.
The HEV somehow balances the overall look.

This.

If the HEV was removed, I'd want the crown + crown guards made less protruding.

Agree.

Also, it makes an excellent fidget tool in long meetings. The one on my 300 Diver may need a re-thread after these lockdowns finally end.

If people ask, I usually make up a watch function and tell them the second crown is for setting it. Barometer is my personal favorite so far. Opening the valve lets the pressure regulate, and tells me what the weather will be. 😀

CEO: "Scapa, what are you doing with your watch? Please pay attention to the meeting."

Scapa: "Sorry Boss -- I was checking to see if the He valve was the reason for all the hot air that is filling the room."

I went to my AD a few days ago and he showed me photos of a yet to be announced and upcoming Tissot Seastar diver which is 600 meter WR and has a nice HEV valve which is incorporated in the case just like the Rolex Sea Dweller. It has the letters "He" etched on it. Since Omega is a sister company in the swatch group, i wouldn't be surprised if this was introduced in the next PO update. As i said before i doubt Omega will be removing it from the SMP Diver because it alters the DNA of an iconic watch.

I like the unique characteristic it lends to the 300M design, and I think on the PO it becomes quite necessary to differentiate it from all the other divers out there. If you want a Seamaster without a He valve, why not go buy a Rolex?

It's a matter of altering the DNA of an iconic design, Omega seems sensitive to this, perhaps just make the valve a bit smaller and leave it be. You will notice the latest iteration of the Speedmaster left the appearance pretty much alone, some minor tweaks and mostly retro-type changes related to an earlier face/case/bracelet design. An upgraded movement but NO indication on the face to indicate "Master Chronometer". If anything, they backdated the overall appearance. Now, if Omega would go back to sword hands on the Seamaster, I'd probably consider getting one. I had one of the latest 2019 versions and traded it as I really didn't like the hands, the bracelet was too heavy & bulky, and I ultimately didn't care for it as much as I tried. I guess it's all mostly subjective.

It’s not the functionality. I’d be shocked if more 0.5% of the owners are saturated divers. It’s the look. The HEV is the Seamaster. Leave it. But make is a little smaller than it is on the newest model. It’s out of proportion.

Agreed that the HEV is too large on the current version of the diver. The prior generation is the perfect one watch collection.

But perhaps Omega would be willing to part with the skeleton hands 😵‍💫

Skeleton hands are in the same group as the HEV. Untouchable on the SMP in my opinion. Change them and it's a different watch.

Agreed. In addition to the HEV and the skeleton hands, the scalloped bezel is the third feature that makes the SMP unique. I don’t see Omega changing any of those features. I like them all.

I agree as well, the bracelet, skeleton hands and the HEV are the unique characteristics of this watch. I love it.

Oops, I forgot to even mention the “Bond” bracelet! That too makes the watch a classic. Don’t go messing with these features, Omega. But please restore the applied Omega symbol/logo to the next dial version. Taking that away and switching to a printed symbol/logo on the current version cheapened the dial.

I tried..owned two Bond Seamasters. Fantastic watches. Classic...but that damn thing ruins it for me.
So YES....get rid of it!

As the He valve is only needed in situations of saturation diving, You can build a diver without the He escape valve and most buyers/users would never need it. So it really is marketing, or the esthetic, or just because we always had the valve on the watch. If Omega were to suddenly use the same type of valve as the Rolex, then they would be accused of having no original solutions to this He escape issue. So my guess is it stays.

The HE valve has grown on me. I think they are intrinsic to the design language of Omega PO and Professional divers. On the wrist they are quickly forgotten.
I’ve owned the SMPc in the past, and currently have a PO 43.5. Love them or hate them, they are 100% Omega.
