I think it is time to start discussing the up-coming James Bond film "No Time to Die" and all the history that has led up to this movie. Firstly from just a general perspective I am very exctied to see this movie whether he is wearing my favorite Omega or not. This should be a great film and I trust Daniel Craig's ability to play Bond as he has done so well many times before.

This is the 25th James Bond movie and with that comes a ton of history. History that stems into watches, 007 operations and justplain old James Bond traditions. Of course, our favorite tradition being the Omega watches that this legend sprts while saving the world. I looked into some horological history behind James Bond and found a wonderful YT (
) video covering some of the standout watches, actors and general opinions circulating around the James Bond franchise.

    Lorenzo Anselmo – @Omegabondwatches
The video starts with the group showing the amazing watches that they are wearing, and I would have to say one standout watch that was worn was by Lorenazo Anselmo @omegabondwatches, the Seamaster Chronograph 321 which was worn at the end of the most recent film "Spectre". It is a beautiful and sleek watch, that many people often miss within the movie. Lorenzo stated "Casino Royale is my favorite Bond movie but for me, Goldfinger is the best Connery film because you have every single piece of the Bond equation in there for the very first time – the white tuxedo dinner jacket, the Aston Martin, the Rolex Submariner – just all those little things that we have come to associate with James Bond, they are all in that movie; it’s the original formula". I found this to be a common theme, many people relate back to the Sean Connery Bond movies to explain their favorite watches and/or watch history.

    Remmert Van Braam – @Jamesbondlifestyle
The James Bond franchise has changed castly over the 25 different movies that have been created. Times have changed and the gadgets that James Bond uses have changed as well. I think for most of us Bond/Omega we lean towards the original James Bond movies, perhaps because we see more of functinality with all that he has to help him with his missions. I personally think it was just how I watched them, I am biased. Sean Connery will always be my Bond, for numerous reasons. I think Rammert Van Braam agrees as he states "Casino Royale is my favorite Bond movie but for me, Goldfinger is the best Connery film because you have every single piece of the Bond equation in there for the very first time – the white tuxedo dinner jacket, the Aston Martin, the Rolex Submariner – just all those little things that we have come to associate with James Bond, they are all in that movie; it’s the original formula". As he says, "its the original formula", this is all you need to say. If you are trying to depict James Bond, than I want him to have his classic trinkets and toys, but I think with "No Time to Die" we will see lots of new trinkets and toys that we are not fond of as times have and will continue to change. Not to say I dont hope to see him rocking a functional Omega for his role in this movie.

    Morgan King – @Morgan0714
different Morgan King was in suit for this topic, he was smoking a cigar, suited up in a nice bright red suit and was ready to dive into this topic. Morgan knew the history of the 007 franchise which I enjoyed learning about the weird tid-bits about James Bond, not only about the watches but about his Cars, scene break down. It really was a Bond history run through. My favorite statement from Morgan was "James Bond is immortal; he’s kind of like Batman. He can do anything with a paperclip, and you expect him to wear a Rolex like in the original books, so having him wear Seiko is kind of ideal. It is not as cool as a Rolex or an Omega, or even that Gruen he wore, but Bond is the type of person that could probably kill you with a Seiko and it wouldn’t even matter at all". I think I agree, although I am an Omega fan, I think James Bond does not require a fancy watch, although throughout the years I enjoy how they have brought the functionality of the agents watches into their daily spy challenges.

Overall I learned a lot on the past James Bond movies and what we might expect to see in the new movie but not much speculation on any storyline. I enjoyed that, no speculative spoilers, but just pure James Bond car, watches and actor history. I can not wait to experience this movie and see what James Bond will be utilizing this time. Let me know your thoughts or excitement surrounding the new movies or Bond history!

The Bond films are some of the dumbest and it’s a shame. They always have been but it’s like they have lost some of the charm of old. Daniel Craig is pretty cool and Ralph Fiennes is one of my favourite actors but they can’t save the miserable narrative and the writing is just plain lacy. Some scenes are pretty good but they are quickly ruined and forgotten. By the end of Spectre I was ready to piss my pants to have an excuse to leave the cinema.

I enjoyed Casino Royal and Skyfall. Skyfall is still my favorite Bond movie and the reason why I bought my Seamaster 2220 was because it was worn by DC in CR.

QoS wasn't that great but to me this was the pinnacle of DC's clothes in as James Bond. Spectre was okay but no great.

But someone still has to explain to me, why Bond and the woman went to the desert and let themselves be captured only to be saved by Bonds stupid watch. And a car was sent for them and why entrede. And then explain 10 other scenes that made zero sense. Granted, Casino Royal was alright expect for the silly poker fetish

    golly...

The Bond franchise isn't unlike Batman.
Everybody says, "The Nolan era is the best, because dark, hard edged, blah blah blah...". But when we were kids, the Adam West Batman was AWESOME, because all that mattered was frikkin' Batman. I think it's important to keep at least some of that sentiment intact when it comes to Bond.
I have my faves from each incarnation, but Timothy Dalton is probably the best Bond in my opinion.
The greatest fault with the Dalton era is, I believe, the producers didn't know what they wanted in a Bond movie.
They were just coming off Moore, who was great in his own way, and didn't want to alienate that fan base. But they weren't prepared to commit to a full blown killing machine. So, you get kind of a watered down Craig era. But Dalton was absolutely ahead of his time and out Bond-ed Brosnan in every way. Dalton is pretty dang hardcore and doesn't take much poop from anybody, but he's got that weird melty chocolate center for old Olivia D'abo, which is cute, in a not-too-off-putting sort of way.
Then super hot, badazz Carey Lowell comes in on License To Freaking Rock... I mean, KILL.
Anywhoo... Sweet Tag Heuer in Living Daylights. Great soundtrack. Fun, but edgy enough you could still cut yourself on it.
LtK took it a step further, and if we'd had the good fortune of seeing a third Dalton Bond, I think there's a good chance it would have been two solid hours of him smoking ( last Bond to do that ), drinking', bonin', and killing bad guys, uninterrupted, and often at the same time...

...with a Rolex on one wrist, and an Omega on the other.

As an engineer, watching the act of shooting off one exposed valve (I think it was a valve, but even if not, WTF), causing the entire facility to explode, was “interesting” to say the least. What exactly was the chain of events there? Makes zero sense, but it doesn’t have to I guess...just entertainment in the end.

If you go back and watch the older movies, they are cringeworthy...

You know, I was gonna reply with something smart aleck-y here.
Instead, let me just leave everyone with a lesson:

I swear, I thought it was going to make sense.

Doesn't suspension of disbelief play into the whole thing in some way? It's more of a theatrical concept/premise but should come into play to some degree. But yes, it's all good fun.

    have fun

I never understood why people are using logic to pick apart (action) movies, especially Bond movies. They are not made to make sense or be realistic and that's also why they are entertaining (guess what, because realism and real life are boring as hell).

With Bond you know exactly how every movie will turn out. That every time he will find an incredibly convenient way to scrape it past some deadly enemies and obstacles, that the bad guy instead of just shooting Bond will make a whole drama around capturing and killing him, giving him many opportunities to escape and spoil his plans while delivering some cheesy one liners and getting the pretty girl at the end.

Just slow down your brain and let it run at a lower frequency, relax, bring out your inner child and enjoy the movies for what they are. If you cannot do that there are many documentaries about cold war spies to watch.

To me, the movies are fun, they don’t need to be hyper realistic. I loved Goldeneye because I was the perfect age to fall in love with Bond movies when it came out, plus I loved that watch, and really really love the N64 game :)

I like all the Daniel Craig movies.

I think my favorite though is Never Say Never Again.

Yes, absolutely. The problem is that while you are “in the story” something that is so glaring appears that it jars you back to reality rather abruptly. Trust me when I say that I don’t expect these to be realistic, and I’m fully prepared to suspend logic to a degree, but there is a limit reached when things don’t even make sense within the storyline.

The particular scene I mentioned before even my wife said “WTF” to, and she’s no engineer. When we got out of the theatre she was the one who brought that up, not me. She has a science background but her degree is in biology, and even she thought it was a roll eyes thing.

They can do better, I guess I would say...but still I’ll see the next one regardless, because again it’s all entertainment in the end.

    Cheers, Al

I think the problem is that big evil villains rarely think of safety precautions, they just don’t care about OSHA’s rules ;)

At least they set a record…

Well, even big evil villains shouldn’t leave their operations so vulnerable. Even if it’s not a health and safety issue, it an “evil plan roadblock” issue. ;)

I wouldn’t normally visit this thread - I’m not that into dive watches (modern or old) - but I do have a soft spot for Oris watches and toy with the idea of getting a Fifty five 36mm.

So, getting over my surprise at seeing an ad for James Bond’s new watch I was pleased to see he liked them too. Well done Omega designers
